A house burns

HOLY CARP!!!
I heard on the radio today that a house near me burned to the ground.

I heard the street name and knew what house it was.

...

On one of the prettiest streets in my neighborhood sat a house that resembled a log cabin. It sat on several acres of land and I drove by it almost every day for a decade.

You could see the condition of the house gradually decline.

Still, a faithful golden retriever sat in the driveway every day, watching cars go by.

The house went for sale about a year ago and never sold. I imagined an older couple living there and the house needing more work than most buyers can accept.

Saturday night it caught on fire.

I drove by today -- no house. Just yellow tape and ashes.

The news says the remains of an elderly woman were found -- the husband died about a year ago.

No word on the dog.

I never met the family yet I feel like I knew them.

Just so sad.

Terrible news. Especially the elderly lady. A bad way to go.
Everyone makes mistakes. I'm bound to do so myself eventually.

So sad.
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

That is awful.

We had a house burn down in our neighborhood killing a family of three. The young daughter had some kind of mental issues as once in awhile we'd see the mother trying to catch up with the daughter running down the block. The house burned down about 20 years ago and despite being in a pretty crowded neighborhood, no one has ever rebuilt there. It still has a temporary chain link fence around the site even today.

The dog died with the old woman.

Of course he did.

Could this get sadder?

I have the urge to try to reach back in time and warn them.

The image of that happy dog on the driveway will haunt me.
