I went to a party last night - one of my partners was retiring. Very nice affair. About 100 people showed up, some of whom I hadn't seen in 15 years or so. It's nice to see that our little place has a sense of family and friendship that's lasted so long. I spent about half an hour talking to one of the surgeons. Our conversation turned to whiskey (he's a Scotch drinker, and the one who educated me about Yamazake), of course, and he tole me that he's been investigating bourbon. I know nothing of bourbon, and he said that I should explore.

He also mentioned this stuff: Templeton Rye.

When Prohibition outlawed the manufacture and sale of alcoholic beverages in 1920, many enterprising residents of a small town in Iowa chose to become outlaws – producing a high caliber and much sought-after whiskey known as Templeton Rye, or “The Good Stuff” to those in the know. Produced from the original Prohibition era recipe and aged in charred new oak barrels, Templeton Rye provides a smooth finish and a clean getaway.

Eric suggested I drink it neat - which I'm doing right now.

Oh, yes.

Definitely ... yes.

Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

If you want trouble, find yourself a redhead
Tonight is daughter's last prom. I could use a new whisky.

Not because I am worried about her - her date is gay and a kid I really like from a family I really like. He came out this year when whe went to college to a collective yawn. I guess everyone already knew. But he was an absolutely hilarious, brilliant Sir Andrew in The Twelfth Night.

No, not worried. Just tired. Big events bring out the grizzly in moms. The house was rather a shambles at 4 when they called to say pictures for all four kids going was going to be at our house at 5.

Two fingers, neat, please. Make it three.

It's only about 6 here, and I've finished about a finger's worth of the stuff. Pretty smooth, but definitely not Scotch.

Time for more.

Good luck with the prom, Mik.

Thanks. George. I'll be OK. At least we didn't get asked to do the after-prom.

I second that, but the problem with the cans is the limited serving.

Incidentally, soda is EXPENSIVE here. Holy hell, a can of coke can be almost three dollars.
I cite irreconcilable differences.
