Out of $1B a year, 40% is services income and 40% of that is from abortion.
George - I have no dog either, nor was I endorsing those numbers. I was just correcting KB as to what IT's claim was.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

Jon: Noted - thanks, I read the post too quickly.
It doesn't change my point or my thinking - but I was mistaken - thanks for the heads up.

How do you get 16%, Jon?
because with all their other income, include $1/3B in public funds, they rake in about $1.1B a year. And no one's getting rich. lolzwut

It's not like they're in it for the bucks, Steve. Nobody's getting rich here. Abortion is a delicate, surgical procedure. Surgical procedures are going to cost considerably more than routine exams or screenings. I really don't see why they percentage of dollars should have any bearing on the issue. The fact is, the lion's share of what they do is not abortions, but helping poor women with their health issues.
No one's getting rich on abortion? Whose kidding who? Out of $1B a year, 40% is services income and 40% of that is from abortion. They post about $63M in 2009 in "excess of revenue over expenditures" which is nonprofit-speak for profit. And Cecile Richards, the president, makes almost $400K a year which means she basically get a $1 for every human being killed through her organization.

here's your "delicate surgical procedure"...

And it really does not matter what percentage they do -- no group that kills innocent people as part of their business plan should get a dime of public funds -- or groups that systematically hide the rape of 13 year old girls. .
So, you're saying that Planned Parenthood employees are getting rich? Do you suppose any of their salaries compare with those of the wall street geniuses who brought hedge funds or the sub-prime mortgage crisis. Well, I'll help you out. Here's a chart of Planned Parenthood salaries. The average is 37K. So, I'm not sure just who it is at Planned Parenthood that you think is getting rich. If in fact 40% of the organization's income is from abortion, again, it's because it's a surgical procedure that is going to be considerably more costly than most of of their other services.

The irony is, if Planned Parenthood went under, there would be that many more unwanted pregnancies, since a huge percentage of theirs services is in providing birth control.

I don't understand why the people who obsess over 3% of their services that comprises abortions don't lend their support to the other stuff. Nothing like throwing the baby out with the bath water. Maybe it really is because they'd like to take women back to the stone ages, barefoot and pregnant.
1. That's not a chart of PP salaries. The website states an "average salary" and then cites underneath averages for like jobs.

2. Best to run screaming from a PP Clinic, since according to your website, their employees make less than nursing home employees.

3. Much of PP's business model revolves around killing babies. Simple as that...Which makes sense, since the organization was based on the eugenics beliefs of its founder.

4. NGOs which deliver better services for less government money spent are to be applauded. I don't equate abortion with providing better services.

Then perhaps you can explain why, when Fox News had a girl call numerous Planned Parenthood offices asking how much they charged for a pap smear, every single one of them told the girl they did not do pap smears, but would refer her to a doctor who would do one for her.
Citation?

May be Fox News lied, may be their agent (the girl) called the wrong places (e.g., calling an "office" vs. calling a "clinic"), may be she's wasn't asking the right question, may be she's asking for services she's not eligible to receive (e.g., certain clinics in certain areas offer pap tests for free during a certain time for women in a certain age range, say women between 40 and 60 years old -- if you call one up and ask for a free pap tests and tell them you're 24 years old, of course they're going to tell you "no").

You see, that is the information Fox was basing their comments on ...
No. We're laughing at the Fox News crew for stating that women could get pap tests and breast exams at Walgreen. That claim is decidedly false regardless of any assumption about Planned Parenthood made by Fox News.
It's not uncommon for doc-in-a-box operations to be linked with Walgreens. Walmart, too, for that matter.

Didn't you recently receive treatment at a WIC in a non-traditional setting?

I wondered about that as well. Rite Aid, for awhile at least, had little mini-clinics set up in some stores. I couldn't tell that they did pap smears or breast exams, but they did offer some health care procedures.
