So in a middle school in Texas, there's a baby squirrel acting erratic and chasing students. The "resource officer" (aka, police) is called in. He sees the squirrel chasing students aggressively, so he tries to scare the squirrel away. The squirrel responds by acting aggressively. Apparantly there's been a problem with rabies in the area. So, the officer stands between the squirrel and the students and sprays it with pepper spray to try to get it to back off until animal control officers arrive. The animal control officers arrive, take it back to a shelter, test the animal, treat it, and release the non-rabid, but perfectly fine from the pepper spray beastie back into the wild. For these actions (captured on cell cameras and now all over YouTube), this officer is being criticized, rebuked, and people are calling for his job. A wild animal in an area with rabies issues is acting agressively and chasing kids, the situation is frightening enough to justify calling in a police officer. At that point, IMO, the officer would have been justified in bashing the squirrel's head in with a shovel, let alone spraying it with pepper spray. http://www.myfoxdfw.com/dpp/news/040711-officer-stops-baby-squirrel-with-pepper-spray |

Gawdhelpus, you'd think hunting pests had been banned. And once dead, don't waste it. Serve it up as an option on next day's school dinner. If you think Brits are wussies for banning hunting and such sport, take note of what we still do for thrills. Did you good folks see our Grand National yesterday? Nothing like whipping 30 horses round a racetrack twice, with large obstacles added to make it deadly; 'sport' in the best possible taste. http://www.mauritiushot.com/video-two-horses-die-at-grand-national-2011/ That's 33 dead horses this jumping season. |
