in reaction to Citizens United vs FCC the City Of Madison has resolved that only human persons have constitutional rights.

it's the Left that is promoting this, Kenny -- so let's just say "individuals on the Left" if that makes you feel better.

FWIW, I think Citizens United was a really bad decision, but stripping all corporations of all Constitutional rights is not the way to fix things.
The dogma lives loudly within me.

What rights have the Constitution conferred upon corporations?

The Constitution says rights not enumerated in the Constitution are reserved for the states and the people. It doesn't say anything about reserving rights for the corporations (much like it doesn't say anything about reserving any rights for the birds or the fish).

FIFY

Would you like to see who gives how much money to whom?.

Shall we prevent unions and newspapers from contributing to elections?

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

A bird or a fish is not a legal person -- it can't own property or be sued or sue in court or enter into contracts etc.

The courts have held time and again that legal corporations have constitutional rights -- the government can't just walk into a business without a search warrant and confiscate documents, etc.
The dogma lives loudly within me.

Here are the top 40 contributers in the last 20 years:

Lookie there!

Just look at the top 15. With the exception of 3 (who are equal), all of them contribute to the Democrats more than to the GOP by a huge margin.

If you want to eliminate that, well, it'll certainly get interesting, won't it?

America is bought and sold.

That's what freedom is all about.

It is wonderful.

Anyone who doesn't like it can "fix" it with whatever gifts God and man gave them.

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

Without all the wasted money, elections would probably go on for six weeks rather than 2 years as they currently do, so yes, it would.
What do you mean "we", have you got a mouse in your pocket?

I'm all in favor of consistency. If you want to eliminate corporate contributions, eliminate them ALL. Unions are not individuals any more than corporations. Eliminate them as well.

Yah, six weeks would be good - and a lot cheaper. Those union workers would probably have to pay less in dues and they'd bring home more. :thumb:

GK: I like the GOP donors a lot more - they seem a lot more fun than the Dem's donors.

#3 is very problematic.
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.
