The writing had been on the wall for the last few weeks. In early March there were rumours Fox executives were unhappy at the hemorraghing of advertisers, repelled by Beck’s wacky conspiracy theories and his virulent on-air attacks.

Though he retains one of the most listened to shows in broadcasting.

He's really funny for about 5 minutes, until you realise there's no punchline.

My guess is they wanted to clear the way for him to take over from Charlie Sheen in Two and a Half Men.

Renauda: Yes, his radio show is predominantly comedy, and he's actually a pretty funny guy.
I've never seen his TV show, but used to listen to his radio show a lot a couple years ago - not for political reasons, but because I found him to be really funny, as long as he's assisted by the rest of his "team" - which he doesn't have on TV.

That's a George Soro's funded production is it not?

I see. So on TV he just smells funny.

I don't know ... may Jolly, a big fan of Beck, can articulate for us why Beck is so popular.

Interesting take on the situation in that article, not at all the way it was told in a few other articles I've read. I do find it a little amusing reading commentary on the guy by people who have never even bothered to watch his show.

Nah, I just think that before a person ridicules the man, the least they could do is take the time to know what he's actually said.

The thing that I've always found odd - 99% of the time, the things Beck says that his detractors laugh at, tend to become reality in time.

So he is not only funny but he is a prophet (or is that a profiteer? ) as well.

Well, most of what I've heard him say in terms of conspiracy theory hasn't come to pass (i.e. the current political landscape here is identical to pre WWII Germany) - but yes, his radio show has been fundamentally based in comedy, and is very light hearted (for the most part).
I used to enjoy listening to it a lot.
Then again, Rush Limbaugh is also predominantly light hearted, and funny in his approach, but people don't seem to "get" his level of irony and sarcasm, and seem to think he's serious all of the time about what he's saying. His appearances on the Family Guy demonstrate this lighthearted nature quite well.

I've watched his show. He's a f*cking nutcase, or at the very least he plays one on TV. I actually meant it when I said he was really funny for 5 minutes. For me, it's a little like watching TV evangelists. Another peculiarly American peculiarity, derived I suspect from this nation's fine tradition of carnival hucksters and snake-oil salesmen.
