HOLY CARP!!!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crossing_the_Line_(documentary)

The 2006 British documentary "Crossing the Line" is fascinating and now streaming on Netflix.

Back in the 60s a few American soldiers walked through the DMZ from South to North Korea to defect.
These white guys became propaganda goldmines for NK, and embarrassments that the US government didn't exactly want to show off.

They were treated well and even became film stars in NK.
In the 90s, while zillions of NKians were dying of in a famine, these national treasures were given generous food rations.
The love/hate thing between NK and these Americans is really odd.
What a weird arrangement.

NK even kidnapped an innocent Japanese woman to supply one with a wife.
Fascinating story!

Our government, media and NK itself make sure we don't hear/learn much about NK (or only spoon feed us their propaganda) so this was a riveting film.
I can't believe NK allowed the filming - though it is of course chock full of propaganda.

HOLY CARP!!!
I'm watching it again tonight.
It is not fast paced or exciting, in fact it's kind of depressing.

It's just such a near-unbelievable story.

There's a nat'l geographic doc on N Korea that you might like too Kenny, it streams on NFlix. Can't remember the name, but it follows a doctor who's there for a few days for missionary work to cure some cataracts. The powers that be only allowed them to stay for a day or three.

The money shot is after the healed folk get their bandages removed. They prostrate themselves in front of pictures of their dear leader, and break down emotionally trying to express their gratitude to him for healing them.
As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?

Yeah, I saw that. :puke:

I read once NKeans say that in the dead of winter flowers burst from the snowy ground when their supreme leader walks by.

I really suspect people are not that stupid and brainwashed.
Everyone knows that only happens when Obama walks by.

They just realize if they don't act that way they'll lose any "privileges", like oh say rice rations, they might have or hope to gain one day.
The more they kiss @ss the better their life is.

The more I learn about NK the more it gets curiouser and curiouser.
