Pinned threads; ...too many?

We have 9 pinned threads...am I the only one that thinks we have a bit too many? It used to be just 2 or 3, then 4, then 5, etc...

Although it's tough since they're all active and I can't think of any to un-pin.

I must admit I've stopped looking at any of them, partly because there are too many.

What are you playing now?
What are you reading now?
What are you listening to now?

Maybe we should pin this one.

The only one that really needs pinning is the Word Association thread.

It's tough because they are active and valuable, it's just their position at the top of the page (I have to scroll down before I even see a regular thread), that's getting in the way. I wonder if there's a way to move them to the bottom of the page.

Other past pinned threads can be found in the Important Topics subforum, but that's usually only once the purpose of the pinned thread has run its course, so I'm not sure if it would be applicable here.

I'd unpin all those threads that usually have less than one post per week or the like.

I actually like that idea. What's wrong with a Pinned Threads sub-forum?

Way too many. I hate pinned threads.

Frankly I forget to look at them because they're always there. If they weren't pinned, I'd look at them every time they resurfaced on P1.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

I suggested and argued for placing them at the bottom years ago.

I hate pinned threads.
I'll look through them maybe twice a year.
I'll open one, the pic thread, maybe once a year.

Placing them at the top results in a pattern of NOT looking at them, the opposite of the intention.

This one was my idea. I mentioned at the time that it would be nice if we all knew where every one lived. I didn't think we needed a thread for it, I thought it should be in place of our Carp ranking. Still do.

Yep, too many.

This is like cutting government spending. Everybody agrees it's too much but nobody agrees on what should be cut.
As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?

I don't mind alluding to my location when it comes up in a thread, but I'm less likely to post it in a designated thread. We have seen a lot of trolls and "guests" around here.

Unpin them all, the ones with traffic will get bumped anyway.

And the search function works now.

MS - that's my thought too. With the search function working great now, people can search for "cookbook" or "show us your picture" or "dailyshoot photos" easily.

I'm going to unpin all of them now, and will leave a temporary pinned thread letting folks know how they can access them again.

I strongly agree with MS.

Locations pinned to avatars or siglines, even if common knowledge among us friends, should not be mandatory.

So I followed the instructions for the "Where are you?" thread, and tried it with and without quotes and it brought bunches of posts, and the "Where are you?" thread wasn't on the first page.

Can't we have the links posted right in the note about pinned threads - and leave that single thread pinned on the top?

Kincaid - good idea about linking the titles, I'll do that now. However since it's a temporary announcement, the search engine will be the only way after a couple of weeks, once the announcement is removed.

Also, it wasn't working because the default is for the "Search Posts" option to be selected, when you need to have the "Search Topics" option selected. See Step 2 in the instructions. :P
