I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

Fill a bucket full of warm water, and throw the water out your front door, see if it instantly evaporates.

We have thrown boiling water in the outside air at -30F. It freezes instantly midair. Very cool. :)

Oh, there are already multiples on the interwebs. We were not the first to try this. Not by a long shot.

Might need to do it again tomorrow, just for fun, don'cha know. :P

It's even better at -30F, George. More *poof* as it hits the air.

Brenda -- I just came in from shoveling. School is cancelled here.

But it is spring here compared to what I am reading in your post. I mean wow.

In a nutshell, why do you get such cold temps and large snow counts? What are the geological forces? I am amazed at your winters. I have a new appreciation for them.

The guy in the video said it was -8. Anybody know the highest temperature that this would still happen?

If that was a Brazilian Toyota commercial like it says, I wonder why the text was in English?

Bundle up, Brenda. And don't forget to drink a little brandy.

Minnesota is the coldest place I've ever been. One morning it was -43 deg. F when I left for work. There was outside work that almost impossible to do when it was that cold. With gloves or mittens on, I couldn't handle small parts and with them off, my fingers froze to the little screws and other pieces. If they were small enough, I could put them and my fingers inside my clothes until they warmed up, but that was impossible with the larger parts. Heat lamps or radiant heaters had to be deployed to warm things enough to take them apart and reassemble them.

Ok, Aqua, it's -14F and hubby just did the boiling water throw out the new side doorway. It worked just like in the video, but not quite as *poofy* as at -34F when we did it a couple years ago. Science is fun!

It's the air currents and such. On the bright side, we burn so many calories to stay warm that we can eat fun treats.

I need to bake today. :woot:

Frostbite is a real threat when it's that cold. In just a relatively short time, as in minutes, the skin begins to freeze. In the country here, people build little buildings near the end of the long rural driveways for their kids to wait for the school bus. The buildings are not heated, but the kids get out of the wind and that helps.
