I bought some batteries on eBay yesterday. You know, those little things that look like a coin. It was a deal too good to pass up. A five pack for 0.99! The seller has good feedback (99% positive), and I won the auction. The $0.99 price includes free shipping. After I paid, I discovered, they're coming from China. Shipping might take up to 4 weeks. What could go wrong? |

Let us know how that works out for you, George. I can imagine the batteries from China being that cheap, but how they process an order, ship it, and collect payment within that 99 cents for each order is the real puzzle to me. Big Al |

That's what I was thinking also. How can they possibly ship something for less than a buck? Everything I sell on eBay ships for actual cost plus a buck and a half (packaging costs, going to the post office, etc). It's probably the WebVan philosophy: "We lose a bit on each deal, but we make up for it in volume."

Don't think of the cost of shipping in the US. If someone sends a package by regular mail, they pay the shipping rate of the country they are in. Might be much cheaper deals for companies mailing to the US, in China, than we're used to. (doubt the China post office has to support all those pension and medical benefits). |

On a related matter, how do those post people do so well in the snow in those mail trucks? Their tires are no bigger than medium pizzas. Their trucks are boxy and have zero aerodynamics. Schools delay, cities shut down, but those things keep humming. I never see them spin out. Just wonderin'. |
