Sigh.

When I hear one person (from the left) condemn the identical map that the DCLC had in 2006...

or the ad of Manchin firing a rifle into a paper that says "Obamacare..."

or the ad that shows a GOP candidate LITERALLY in crosshairs....

or the DailyKOS posting of the Az Congresswoman being "targeted...."
(which Kos pulled, by the way)

I can take your complaints and concerns with a bit more seriousness.

But, three days later, no one has.

And that says a lot.

If it was okay Sarah would not have removed it from her website after the shooting.

Removing it from her website is hardly an objective indicator of whether or not the sign is objectively "ok."
When your chosen career is a popularity contest (literally), you have little choice but to at least be aware of people's thoughts and ideas if you want to be successful.

If seeing bullseyes is a call to action for every schizophrenic on the planet, it's a marvel that more shootings don't happen at TARGET!
And those ones there, at that place... Those are red bulls eyes!!!!
I cite irreconcilable differences.

I've said little about Palin too, George, and she is the one who is thrust upon the public daily for whatever reason. I never saw that other map. I apologize if my opinion of her rubs you wrong. I'll keep my feelings to myself.

it's a dangerous road we tread when this type of instigatory communication is politically correct.

No don't do that.

But maybe you could try to fix them.
The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

This crap wouldn't make a decent scab on a skinny cow's ass.

During Huey Long's day, his opposition walked the streets of New Orleans...with cocked and locked Tommy guns.

Now, that's intense rhetoric!

That didn't work out for ol' Huey so well, did it?

Hardly a good argument for intense rhetoric....

Your opinion of her doesn't rub be wrong. However, your laying blame at her feet for the tragedy is short-sighted, for similar things were said by others. You either were ignorant of them, or chose to ignore them. One is excusable, the other is not.

Don't keep your feelings to yourself. Keep an open mind.

John: huh - could be the woman the media has fed you may not be the one who lives and breathes.

Apple: I don't in any way want you to keep your feelings to yourself, so please don't on my account.
I'm trying to make sense of the folks telling me that politics plays a part in this. I disagree with this assertion, but am interested in the logic that takes people there - and I'm not seeing the logic, so I'm having trouble empathizing with this position. The big hiccup for me seems to be this poster with bullseyes on it, which seems to clearly indicate something sinister to some, while I see a poster with targets on it, denoting political targets in key places (the first I noticed was Salazar in my own state). I guess I just don't see more than that with this sign, so I keep coming back to this tragedy simply being a tragedy.

Klebold and Harris's parents were horribly uninvolved in their lives, but I still put the weight of their actions on them, not their parents. Similarly, I just don't see politics as playing in here. I see mental instability and sickness playing a much larger role in the decision to move in this direction, than politics did. It could've been anything that he fixated on that would've led to this.

People keep their feelings to themselves (or leave) because there is a disrespectful, intolerant, predatory, competitive, us vs. them, tribal, every-conversation-is-a-competition-to-win, I MUST CONQUER YOU WITH WORDS atmosphere here.
Not a whole of respecting diversity going on here, which is what apple's all about.

This talk of targetting political opponents as if that was a brand new thing in the political lexicon is pretty rediculous. Politics has always been replete with military terms like "war room", "war chest", "foot soldiers", "ammunition", "closing ranks", "campaign", "gunning for..." and, yes, "targetting". To say any of this is incitement to violence patently absurd.

That might be part of the problem Kenny - you see the last page's exchange as having a "disrespectful, intolerant, predatory, competitive, us vs. them, tribal, every-conversation-is-a-competition-to-win atmosphere."
I know that can happen here, I'm not disagreeing, but looking through the thread, I see lots of civil discourse going on, and nobody's "neck" being "chopped off."
I don't think it's fair to say that someone's being predatory, or disrespectful every time they disagree with you...

Agreed, when people leave it at disagreeing.

But what often happens here is people do not leave it at disagreeing, thereby respecting your different perspective.
They go on to "prove" how you are wrong and the ONLY logical thing for you to do is convert to THEIR perspective.

This gladiator warfare is taught in college debating classes and it is widely accepted, even respected, among "intelligent" and highly "educated" people. :puke:

Personally, I think this stems from intolerance, insecurity and fear.
When I hear things like "You haven't been listening" "You don't get it" those imply there is a single external absolute truth that applies to everyone and WTF is wrong with you for not getting it?

John: huh - could be the woman the media has fed you may not be the one who lives and breathes.
It was a joke. However, she's not exactly Winston Churchill, is she? Well apart from the big cigars, of course.

I could say the same about Obama - he's sometimes like a deer in the headlights when the auto-cue is switched off. Oops, did I say deer in the headlights? That was almost a hunting metaphor, we wouldn't want that. He's almost like a sitting duck. Errr....no, that doesn't work either. He looks a little uncomfortable.
