nope. it's about weight distribution. those dumps are only used in California. In california there has to be 40' between dual axle groups so as not to overstress bridges and highways. It's called a bridge limit. Most states say 41' but the idea is the same -- spread the weight out. Now you know what a bridge limit is. |

something to do with the way bridges flex under sudden loads -- like a wave. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Bridge_Gross_Weight_Formula little things people don't notice on semis is that the fifth wheels slide back and forth and (usually) the trailer tandems also slide back and forth. What's really tricky is sliding things to get the weight right (34,000 lbs. max in most states on each dual axle) without violating the bridge law. |
