I have a bunch of lines on my cellphone plan with AT&T. (no, I'm not thinking about getting an iPhone) I've been with The timing of our "upgrades" varies depending on the person. My phone is available for an upgrade in June, Mrs. George's is available in January of next year. So, if I want to hop carriers, and only one line is available for an upgrade, how do I do it? Do I simply drop that line from my plan and get a new plan with Verizon? That sounds like it'll be expensive, because my plan is a "family plan" with additional lines being cheap. |

Why? I have My cellphone sits in my car - turned off. If you want to reach me, page me. I'll turn on my phone and call you back. Then I'll turn it off. Otherwise, I don't want to be bothered. I'm really not a phone person. At all. |

George: We used to have the ATT family plan, and moved to the Sprint family plan two years ago because it was priced a little differently, and just made more sense for how we use our phones. I'm not sure how it works with the staggering plans, but I'd imagine that you can move one line to another carrier, and simply make that the primary line on a new family plan, with the new carrier. If you're looking at Verizon, I'd just call them, and and make it clear you're trying to give them business - let them figure out how to make that work, and similarly, contact ATT and let them know that you want to remove a line from your family plan, and simply "restructure" it. |

I'm NOT buying an iPhone. I don't want an iPhone. I'm thinking of changing carriers to Verizon, but I have a bunch of lines on AT&T. The question is how to transfer the phones when they all have different "update" dates. |

George, I'd think you'd be more interested in the dates you can cancel without a penalty, rather than upgrading. Plays and I switched from Alltel to Verizon and had different dates without penalty. We just waited till they both run out and switched carriers. Now, if you don't care about paying an early termination fee, cancel them both now. |

Maybe I didn't understand the facts, George, but I'd think that if you move from one carrier to another it doesn't matter about the upgrade date? Anyway, I've always been on Verizon and always loved it. When I added a line it was only $9.95 for each line (and eventually a little more than that because we wanted unlimited texting and some other stuff for the college kid). I believe our plan is $49 a month (and I got a free phone for signing up for two years - and I'm on the "new every two" plan so every two years I get a new phone for free if I choose wisely). Each line is another $10 and everyone gets the new every two. We have something like 750 hours of time and only once ever went over and we got a warning so didn't get charged. Unlimited text as mentioned. Also one phone is good for overseas calling. Yeah, I'd bet Verizon could make you some deals in order to |

Ah yes, I didn't understand. My wife didn't upgrade her phone for about four years once, so that one we could have dropped any time. Under the Verizon new every two plan you are re-upping the contract every time for two years every time. Edited by Kincaid, Jan 10 2011, 04:24 PM.
