Should the word be deleted from perhaps the best American novel ever written?

Sooner or later the whole world will stand up and say enough.

This is part of that.

It may not be the straw that breaks the back, but it is definitely a straw.

As the poet said "nigger, nigger, nigger".

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

What is a word worth? According to Publishers Weekly, NewSouth Books’ upcoming edition of Mark Twain’s seminal novel Adventures of Huckleberry Finn will remove all instances of the “n” word—I’ll give you a hint, it’s not nonesuch—present in the text and replace it with slave. The new book will also remove usage of the word Injun.

So does that mean they'll be eliminating the term "whitey" or "blue eyed devil", or "short dick"? ......

Either way, it;s a load of horse puckey.

Let the book stand as written.

I'm with Jolly on that one.

Levar Burton retweeted a hilarious tweet earlier today on this subject:

"Brilliant! RT @rustyrockets I'm editing the words "Huckleberry Finn" out of all my NWA albums."
(for those unfamiliar with Twitter - Levar Burton is saying "Brilliant!" to the words that @rustyrockets tweeted moments before, about his NWA albums).
Made me laugh.

Jon, it's not a 'who' here. (Yes, that line reminds me of Seuss. )

I assumed he was talking about the airline.

To be less hip than someone who's appeared in Star Trek:TNG is a very bad thing.

Excluding Wil Wheaton.

AL: Dude - they're all awesome - all have done some really hilarious stuff since TNG, and all are really interesting people. Michael Dorn is a riot, as is Patrick Steward. Levar Burton was Kunta Kinte in Roots - and the guy who made reading cool to most of us 20-30 somethings with the Reading Rainbow.
Have you seen the episode of Family Guy with the entire TNG cast? It's an absolute riot!
I'm a big WilW fan, and enjoy following him on Twitter, and via his radio burrito podcasts.

As for NWA - I love Eazy-E, and used to be an NWA fan. Still have a lot of their stuff. People forget this was the jumping off point for West Coast rap, and where household names like Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, and Eazy-E got their start.
Even if you don't know who they are, everyone in this thread knows what the "N" in "NWA" stands for. The "W" and the "A" stand for "With Attitudes."

Back to your regularly scheduled thread...
