I didn't realize he authored one volume of the Pentagon Papers. What a long career he had near the eye of the storm. I read his book about Bosnia a few years back. |

First of all, the actual cause of his death isn't mentioned, other than saying a "torn" aorta. If this was in his chest, he was dealing with a disease that is suddenly and frequently fatal. That's what it sounds like. We do 2-3 of these per year, and it's rare that things end well. Secondly, I am impressed with the number of accolades that he's getting. I may be missing something, but I don't recall a lot of other diplomats being mentioned the same way that he is. He must have been exceptional. Rest in peace, Ambassador. |
