Kenny: Being different sexes, we're sort of inherently sexist. :)

Men != Women
Women != Men

They're just not quite the same creature.
!= ?
Now you're getting it.
Huh?
That explains what != is?
No, ! = is? is incorrect. !=?

Now, is? = is! but that's a completely different issue.
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

Actually, I don't think so. If he was getting it he'd have a much better idea of just what that entails.

IIRC Posted Image means not equal to.

I didn't get the memo about a new symbol.
Thanks, I'll try to remember this.

kenny: != means 'not equal to'
I thought that was ≠. :shrug:

If you are a programmer, opening up Character Map every time you want a not equal is not very practical.

If you're using a Mac, pressing "option" and "equal key" seems pretty practical.

But then, what the hell do I know about programming....

Kenny - I don't have a high school diploma or a college degree - I'd hardly call myself educated.

A coder is someone who codes (writes code).
I was joking, because your question, came across as: !=? Which started looking like a really sophisticated and elegant code evaluating a no-equal-to operator with a ternoray operator. Not trying to sound confusing - just answering your question of why I joked that you looked like a code - you inadvertently began writing some computer code.

As you know, regular is very subjective - I always use regular words here - I'm sorry though, that they're not regular for everyone. :)

You're right, the symbol you posted does mean "not equal to." A quicker keyboard shortcut, and the one we use in most programming languages, is "!=" Surprisingly "equal to" is actually "==" rather than "=." So, == is "equal to, != is "not equal to" and === is like "super duper equal to."

I dare say that if everyone made sure that every single thing they ever said could be 100% understood by every single person, we'd be pretty freakin' boring.

women vent to vent. They do not want their problem solved. They need to talk about it to feel better. That's just how it is. Mister Soak often says, "I'm sorry." When I say, "It's not your fault," his response is, "I'm not taking responsibility, just commiserating". It's amazing how much better that response is than pretty much anything else he could say.

that's great. he's a keeper. :thumb:

oh and fwiw, I had no idea what != meant either. A guess would have been 'like wow, really equals!'

Dol -- I did that a few years ago too -- good advice. He gets about half the Christmas gifts now. He has been very helpful there.

Kenny -- I don't mean to complain -- just vent. I have the balance I want in my life. It's just a crazy month for me and I ruined some cookies today. And I am having this piano party, which is maybe against my better judgment.
Good for you! I find a lot of women just can't seem to do that. I'm proud of you. :) And keep in mind that it will get better, and your kids will make it worth it on Christmas morning. They always do. :)

Kenny - Mister Soak learned something very valuable at some point in his life that he is quite proud of: women vent to vent.

I'm taking a page from his playbbok. Thanks, Dol.

R2,
I truly hated the Christmas concerts. They were a super major source of stress for me. What a total time suck - the rehearsing, the lines at home, the costume making, the cooking for the kids at rehearsal, the driving! back and forth, the hurry up and wait, the expectations for perfect, the extra things teachers wanted done, delegating, volunteering, dealing with difficult mamas, schedulling-reschedulling-shuffling of everything else ....The labile emotions of others ... And all during the time of year when other 'important' things were going down. And for what?? 2 hours on a Friday night?? Usually preceeded by whining or hyperexcitement or apathy of kidlets +/- relatives who won't even remember the Xmas concert of 2010??

Had to say that. Sorry. My feelings only. But it was like families' lives had to be put on hold for the bloody Christmas play. TG those days are over. Yours will be too.

I had to laugh a little of your burnt cookies. I've burnt so many batches. We all want to please, don't we? And baking seems an expectation this time of year doesn't it? R2, I opted out with the baking the year I clued into to a situation here of the Holiday Cookie Exchange. To me it became more of a competitve baking contest, and yet another time suck, and sh*t, I wanted no part of it. So, I just quit baking, and did store bought only when I really had to. Less stress is best and I can't put a price tag on that.

At this point in my life, I probably seem selfish and self absorbed, but I gave of myself, all by myself, for most of my kid's childhood, just to meet the expectations of others' 'perfect' Christmas. I just don't do that anymore. I wasn't a happy person. Truly, no one really remembers all the details, what all I did. I've asked, no one recalls. One thing people do remember was how much of a tired wreck I was. And yes, I was exhausted. So R2, slack a little, cancel, omit, opt out. I think you've done enough already. Scotch is good this time of year.

I just went to Lauren's Christmas concert last Thursday, after the spending the prior Thursday, Friday and Saturday night at the play. (She was a truly haunting Dracula)

I love those things.

Fine Mik. To each his or her own.

Another thing, I sure wish they could've taken the Jesus out of the Christmas concert thing. Like just a bit, tone it down. Ya, I know, impossible for a Catholic school. And yeah, Jesus is what Christmas is all about ... But man oh man, it got oh so super serious. it would've been great to see the kids genuinely smile or laugh singing on stage Jingle Bells, Frosty, Winter Wonderland, or something, but oh nooooes, super serious God stuff and too much of it. It's not like the Bishop went to every school evaluating it. Not all kis' parents were Catholic or religios even. Sheesh.

We don't do evening Christmas concerts here anymore. The last week of school before the break, we do Christmas caroling as a school in the gym for 40 minutes a day. The primary classes each do a song so that's their little presentation, and then they get to choose several of the songs for that day's caroling - guaranteeing lots of Frosty and Rudolph and Hippopotamuses and a minimum of "O Holy Night".

I, for one, am a happy camper.

Damnit! I have an open bottle of wine from last night. Be right back!

At Christmas, childless festive folk should be forced to drive herds of sticky, whiny, sugared up 5 yr olds, back and forth at all times of day or evening, picking up, dropping off, feeding on the go, random nameless kids, at smudged home addresses written hastily on the backs of Starbucks' napkins. It's a riot. Especially when the needle's near 'Empty', tire inflation is down, it's -20 out, and as usual, the cellphone is dead. Ho ho ho.

My duet partner texted me offering to make half the food for the piano party. How thoughtful.

I sorta have faith in the idea that needs are somehow met.
