URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LA CROSSE WI
1209 PM CST FRI DEC 10 2010

...WINTER STORM STILL ON TRACK...

.PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED TO SPREAD INTO SOUTHEAST MINNESOTA
AFTER MIDNIGHT TONIGHT...SPREADING EAST INTO WISCONSIN BY SUNRISE.
INITIALLY IT APPEARS A MIX OF SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN WILL
ACCOMPANY THE PRECIPITATION...ESPECIALLY CLOSER TO THE I-90
CORRIDOR. THIS MIX WILL CHANGE OVER TO ALL SNOW SATURDAY. FURTHER
NORTH...ALL SNOW IS EXPECTED FOR THE ENTIRE STORM. THE SNOW WILL
FINALLY END LATER SATURDAY NIGHT. THE HEAVIEST SNOW IS EXPECTED TO
FALL FROM WABASHA COUNTY EAST ACROSS NORTH CENTRAL WISCONSIN WHERE
8 TO 12 INCHES OF SNOW IS EXPECTED TO FALL. FURTHER SOUTH...FOR
AREAS AROUND I-90...FREEZING RAIN AND SLEET WILL LEAD TO SLIGHTLY
LOWER SNOW TOTALS OF 6 TO 8 INCHES. THE WARNING HAS BEEN SHIFTED
SLIGHTLY SOUTH TO INCLUDE THE I-90 CORRIDOR IN WISCONSIN. WINDS
WILL ALSO BECOME STRONG LATER SATURDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH SUNDAY
MORNING WHICH WILL LEAD TO LOW VISIBILITIES AND BLIZZARD LIKE
CONDITIONS DUE TO THE BLOWING SNOW...ESPECIALLY OVER THE OPEN
AREAS OF SOUTHEAST MINNESOTA.

FURTHER SOUTH ACROSS NORTHEAST IOWA AND SOUTHWEST WISCONSIN...THE
POTENTIAL EXISTS THAT THIS STORM SYSTEM COULD SHIFT FURTHER SOUTH AND
BRING THE HEAVIER SNOW WITH IT. AS OF RIGHT NOW...THE MAIN THREAT
FOR WINTRY CONDITIONS IS FROM FREEZING RAIN AND SLEET THROUGH
SATURDAY MORNING BEFORE TEMPERATURES FALL IN THE AFTERNOON AND THE
PRECIPITATION CHANGES OVER TO ALL SNOW. STRONG WINDS WILL OCCUR
SATURDAY NIGHT...AND SHOULD SNOW ALSO BE FALLING...TRAVEL COULD
BECOME DANGEROUS IN PARTS OF NORTHEAST IOWA CLOSER TO I-35.

AS THE SNOW ENDS SUNDAY MORNING...WIND CHILLS OF 20 TO 35 BELOW
ZERO ARE EXPECTED AS AN ARCTIC AIR MASS DROPS DOWN INTO THE
REGION.

Had ten inches just last weekend, and now another round with ice starting tonight.

The schools aren't affected except for some sports activities cancelled for tomorrow. I expect people will be hunkered down all day tomorrow. Sunday we will begin to dig out, or in our case, chip our way out of the ice.

Yesterday was crazy at the grocery store, and today we completed some more errands in the afternoon and evening.

Got some movies and popcorn ready. Hubby pulled a leg of lamb out of the freezer.

We will decorate for Christmas. Might even get some work done toward the new kitchen/office project. The workmen are done for now until the windows arrive, but we have some things we can do to get ready for after that, such as clearing out the current library/office closet that will become the hall to the new office. All good stuff to do while it's icky outside.

I really wish we were getting all snow, instead of the ice/snow combo. A tenth of an inch doesn't sound like much, but ....

The GF's dad started his 10-hour surgery around 8:30am Minnesooooooota time. She said it was absolutely awful getting to the hospital because of the snow and visibility. At least they are all camped out there in the hospital, hoping and praying for a good outcome.

Brenda, I checked the traffic camera feeds there in MN...looks pretty intense! Stay warm!

Oh my. What a day to have to get to the hospital. Best wishes to her dad and family, 89th.

The forecasted totals for snow have been revised upward again.

Some snow removal has begun already just to try to keep up before the really heavy stuff starts falling this afternoon.

My neighbor had her masectomy during the snowpocalypse last year. Her husband had just had shoulder surgery. All the neighbors shoveled them out so she could leave for the hospital. What a powerful event.

She is doing well, almost a year later.

People will remember that for years. You have a great neighborhood, R2. Ours is pretty good here, too, but we haven't had any misfortunes of that magnitude to test it.

This afternoon the snow will begin to come down in earnest, up to 2 inches per hour is predicted. Looks like we've had 4 or more inches already.

Hubby thinks he should shovel the roof on the new addition, since it only has the underlayment on it, not a real roof yet. He plans to do it several times as the snow piles up over the afternoon.

I'm digging out EVERYTHING from the library closet, aka 'the Christmas closet', to get ready for Christmas and to get it ready for making it into the hall to the new office. Yowsers. It's full to the 9.5-foot ceiling, including shelves along one wall.

The entire SW corner of the state has closed roads.

Towing services are prohibited in these areas now. State patrol will not be out in these areas. And usually the plows are not out either.

I love a day at home. It's just the cleanup of all the snow and ice that is a problem.

I'm sooooo glad we did not have travel plans for this weekend.

Do you have generators, Brenda?

Something tells me that Brenda's would be the place to be in a blizzard. I bet there will be enough baked goods and hot dish to feed an army for a month.

Yes, we have a generator.

We are indeed cozy here, even during a blizzard. I made enough cinnamon rolls for tomorrow morning, too.

No hot dish! Roasted leg of lamb in garlic/herb/dijon sauce, roasted potatoes, bok choy with garden veggies as a salad, green beans, and homemade French bread. A nice red wine to go with it.

Brenda's is a very good place to be in a blizzard. The worst of the storm is yet to come tonight, but dinner will be done by then, with enough for a couple days of meals.
