In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

That's really sad.
Phelps is going to be really really surprised one day.

I'm guessing you mean the day he shuffles off this mortal coil.

P*D: I think most "absolutists" who think they've somehow got it all figured out will be very surprised.
I know I will be - but someone like Phelps definitely will be.
And yes, I mean after he leaves this realm.

So they're saying because she lost her first son, she shouldn't have had any more. That's more than absolutism. Whoever wrote that is mentally ill.

These people make me sick. They do more damage to Christianity than anything the secular world can do.
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

No they don't.

An assumption of irrational fanaticism suffices. I can feel some sympathy for the victims of mental illness. I can feel no sympathy for superstitious fanatics.

Really, Phelps and cult are beneath contempt.

This can be true sometimes - although there aren't many of the folks you mention around! :)

I think nobody is going to be surprised. Its hard to be surprised when you're brain dead.

One of the most depressing things about being an atheist is you can't take comfort in knowing that those who have it all wrong will be surprised.

Yeah see the religious folk are doing it wrong. They're waiting for the afterlife for their great "I told you so", but really, they should be saying that now. They're the ones who get to live their lives thinking they'll see all their departed loved ones again someday, and that the good (like themselves) will receive ultimate eternal rewards, and that the people who think differently than they do will be punished. That's awesome, they should be "nya nya nya"ing about that all day. The "you'll see after you're dead" stuff is just silly compared to that.
As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?

Maybe it's just that only boneheads are considered "a story" for the news.

Who's gonna watch moderate people say moderate things on TV news?

*sigh*

Why does EVERYONE (even that Dawkins fella) equate atheism with "no afterlife". Atheism means no belief in a god Me. Period.

The solution space of possibilities of what happens to mind/consciousness/selfawareness/whatev after one's physical body dies is quite vast. And thats just within the realm that your human mental apparatus can conceive of. Add in all the possibilities that you CANT wrap your little neurons around, and its beyond immense. VERY little of which would depend on some omniscient centralized creator dude.

Afterall, the atheist believes your 'essence' (if you will) exists in these physical bodies without the need of a god. So why so casually dismiss the possibility of your essence proceeding onto existing in a different form, still without need of a god?

Not as ironic as you might think. So much conflict over this issue "is there a god or not". When in reality, the true metaphysical nature of things is actually not adequately characterized by the question.

In other words, both yes and no are both right and wrong answers to the question, as far as how you're able to view things.

This, coming from the man who created (in a way, at least) Schroedinger's cat, and gave us Heisenberg. :lol2:

And yes, as a man of science you should sense some sort of relationship between what I've said, and your examples. You're closer than you know.
