And exactly what kind of research have you put in, Frank? Jesus was not a mystic. Sorry. |

I am a little late to this thread, but I saw this in the first post. Kenny, I have no idea where you read that I subscribe to a Buddhist publication. I do not. I find Buddhism interesting from a historical perspective, but that's it. |

Tons, actually. Both in the Bible, as well as other references from well-known authors and theologians. But it's not important, because you are incapable of ever admitting that someone else might be right about something. Your mind's made up. No sense in confusing you with inconvenient things like facts, right?

I haven't been condescending toward you Frank, I simply said Jesus was not a mystic. That's not even the point of this discussion. Have you bothered to read any of the links I've posted, Frank? Try doing that, why don't you - you'll find they address the issue being discussed, and then maybe you'll understand what I'm trying to point out - not to the nonChristians, but to those who claim to be Christian. |

I suspect if Christ logged on, He would be asking why we're spending time on the angels on the pin kind of thing when we could be spending the gift of our lives in caring for the least of His breathren, praying for our enemies, living in His grace as a model for others, following the part of scripture seems pretty clear cut... Anyone of faith - or even not - might get some good insights into how a Christian might live his or her life by reading a biography of St. Francis of Assisi. He lived his faith pretty heartily and as fully as he was able. His life is often simplified to a nice guy talking to birds - over mysticified (IMHO) - but just sticking to the basics - an amazing life in grace. |

I have read the links you posted, Larry. I find that they don't have any understanding of what a personal, individual relationship with God is all about. They are braying like stupid jackasses masquerading as authorities. Because they tie in with your preconceived notions, you see them as infallible. There's no great mystery there. No one has a monopoly on truth. Not Hinduism, Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, or any of the other religions of the world. The surest sign of the sadly misguided, is someone who thinks they know all there is to know, and then closes their mind. Because something may be considered by YOU to be a fact, doesn't make it necessarily so, but to level your finger at me, and advance your opinion as somehow a greater truth than my own, absolutely IS condescending. |

No need to apologize. We all know JC didn't care for bankers in general and disdained materialists as a whole. We also have some evidence that he had reputation as a faith healer. We are also told by Mathew that he went off into the desert and fasted for 40 days and 40 nights during which time Satan appeared and tempted him 3 times. Having resisted Satan's evil temptations, Jesus was then nourished by heavenly host. Then there's the reported transfiguration. You may probably be right Larry, but all the same I'll put my money down on what Frank wrote. |

Kluurs: +1. Thanks for the important perspective. It's easy to be proud and get caught up in being right. Not necessarily beneficial though - thanks for setting me straight. (I realize that wasn't your intent, but it worked anyway) St. Francis is a great one. Another of my favorites is the Russian monk, St. Seraphim of Sarov (my FIL's namesake). Truly remarkable man, and someone for people of any faith or belief system to respect in their ability to love their neighbor. |

If one's faith is making them a kinder, more loving person and bringing them more in line with Divine Love, then that is the right religion for them. |

Kluurs, I think if Jesus came back today one of the first things he'd do would be to rip through most of the seminaries that exist today with the same rage that he ripped through the temple money changers. Then I think he would repeat what he said in Matthew 7:22-23. |

So in other words, you see yourself as having a more authoritative opinion on the matter than all these religious scholars. These "braying jackasses" as you call them are sticking with scripture, they are not wandering around in some touchy feely personal opinion. I'm not advancing my opinion as "somehow greater truth than yours" - I'm giving you a list of informed, knowledgeable people who have studied the issue and have based their opinions on scripture. If you find that condescending, that's your problem. |
