We'd like to introduce you to KB's donor. We have been very honored in recently connecting with her family and would like to share her story and her family's plight with you. Her name is Taylor. She was a 13 yr old amazing little girl who died in a tragic ski accident while on a spring break trip in CO. KB and I have always done what we could do spread the word about organ donation, and now we have the awesome opportunity of aiding Taylor's family in supporting this cause. Taylor's family started a foundation in her name--the main purpose being to spread awareness about organ donation and help people become donors. When you have a moment, please visit www.taylorsgift.org. They also have a page on Facebook, so you can check them out there as well. They have some stellar pics of her posted, as well as the coolest pic from the Dallas Stars/CO Avalanche hockey game last weekend, where Taylor's family got to toss the puck on the ice. Fans also sported blue bracelets saying "Taylor's Gift". The transplant came just a few weeks after we were told it was unlikely/improbably/nearly impossible that KB could get a kidney unless we had a live donor. It truly is a miracle. KB joins 3 other very fortunate recipients who benefitted from Taylor's parents' decision to donate her organs. Because of their decision our lives are forever changed for the better. Being that you are our online family and many of you have been keeping tabs on what's been going on with KB over the years, we thought you'd like to know.

An important cause to support. In Minnesooota, people can have their donor status designation put on their driver's license to make their wishes known. I don't know whether other states do that or not. |

Good stuff. I think it's great for stories like this to be told; makes organ donation 'real', not just something that happens behind surgery doors. Hopefully it will encourage more people to step up. |

I'd only add that it's extremely important to make sure if you're opting to be a donor, that your family knows your wishes as well. Ultimately, it's their decision, regardless of what your driver's license says - so it's really important to also make your wishes known to those close to you, so that they can honor your wishes if the time ever comes. Taylor's an angel - my angel, and it's been a privilege to be able to experience this with such an amazing, and spiritually mature family. |

Thanks apple - I talk to her every day, and having pictures for some reason helps to make it all that much more "real." |

I've been registered as an organ donor for most of my life. To me, there is no compelling reason not to do it. I'm very, very happy for you Mrs. KB and KB. |

Aww, my screen just got all fuzzy. Wonderful news, KB. It makes me realize the importance of making the organ donor decision clear. I would hate it if my body went to waste if it could be of such use to somebody, but I don´t know that I have ever discussed that with my parents.

Thanks for the link. It's hard to understand sometimes how tragedy can lead to hope and happiness. Clearly Taylor has done that in this case. |
