Thanks everyone. She will be home soon.

All I can think to do is to give her a big hug when she comes through the door.
that's the best thing. she may not want to talk to you about what happened (you weren't there, you don't understand, etc.), but having you in the background, stable and solid and there if she needs you, is more important than she may let on. I'm guessing, of course. Just my female teenagerhood memories.

She is holding up well. When she got home she just came up to me, hugged me and cried openly. This is good. She is letting her emotions out. Something she never used to do before we figured out her adrenal problem. I am so incredibly relieved that she can finally let her feelings out and deal with them. That hug was about as long a hug as I can remember with her. She didn't want to let go and I don't blame her.

She is upset at the way things were handled by certain students and the school administration. Students that were in the classroom when this young man died took pictures of him dying with their cell phones and sent them out all over the place. They hit facebook before he was even removed from the classroom and his siblings who also attend school there saw it. They didn't know he was dead at that time. Oh no! They found out pretty quick though when the principal announced the death of this young man over the loudspeaker to everyone during the final minutes of the lock-down.

WTF? What would possess a principal to be so insensitive? This young man's siblings found out their brother had just died while they were sitting in class with all the other students! I just can't believe how badly this was handled by the principal.

Oh my. That is incredibly insensitive of the principal. The siblings should have been gathered to a private office to meet with their parents for any announcement.

Oh Mark, that is horrible. Unbelievable that the principal handled things so badly. That poor family.

As for those students and the pictures, all I can say is it's good that your daughter was upset by that. You know you've raised a kid with a sense of decency.

Oh man do I feel stupid. My wife sent an email to the principal asking for an explanation. Apparently my daughter and of course we are victims of the high school rumor mill. I should have waited until I heard the other side of the story before putting this out here and I apologize.

The principal called to explain that the family had been all gathered at the hospital & wanted the kids at school to know Taylor had died. So Taylor's brother & sister were at the hospital also.

So the brother and sister were pulled from their classrooms and one of them rode in the ambulance and the other drove their car to the hospital. The entire family were at the hospital and the principal did the right thing and made the announcement to the students as the family wished.

I feel really bad for posting the previous stuff but it was real to me and to my daughter when she told us. She is going to be more than a little upset that people would start such rumors.

Again, I apologize.

That's real life though, Mark. Stories often get messed up. What's important is that the siblings did not find out about their brother's death while sitting in their classrooms, and that the family's wishes were honoured. That's all that really matters here.

Oh, how sad. My deepest condolences to the boy's family and loved ones, and to your daughter and her classmates. It's devastating to learn at such a young age how tough life can be.
