The Military closet may open soon; Equality is inevitable

Nothing is more important than what gays want. If you are critical, then you are labeled a hater. If you question things like gay marriage or gays openly serving in the military, then they will seize the moral high ground and make their cause equal to that of blacks marching for equality, or the women's suffrage movement. Even you haven't voiced an opinion one way or the other and happen to be straight, married, and adopt a "live and let live" approach, you are labeled as a "breeder," and other hateful labels that gays try to slap on people.

And yet, if you use a hateful label in return, calling someone a pole-smoker or a f4ggot, then you might as well have hauled off and called a black person a nigger.

In fact, if you're a straight Caucasian male, you might as well start looking at applying for refugee status somewhere, because in the modern United States Of America, "Life, liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness," no longer applies to you. (Neither does the Bill of Rights, for that matter.)
I'm a straight Caucasian male. To be honest, I have a great life - I've never had any problems with discrimination of any type that I'm aware of.

Then again, I don't have a silly accent....
What do you mean "we", have you got a mouse in your pocket?

Actually, this whole thing is just another example of how brain dead liberals are, and that there IS a gay agenda.

Ax seems to be of the opinion that gays are not being allowed into the military, and that this is discriminating against them. The whole point of "don't ask don't tell" was to accommodate gays, so as not to discriminate against them. But that seems to not be sufficient - now that a policy that allows them to join the military without having to worry about being discriminated against because of their sexual preference has been put in place, we are now being asked that they be given permission to parade their sexual preference.

In other words, it isn't about fairness or equality, it is about giving an inch and then taking a mile.

If you're gay, nothing is stopping you from joining the military. Just shut your damned mouth and join if that's what you want to do. If you think you're being discriminated because you can't sit around and discuss your gayness with everyone else in the foxhole, military life isn't for you, anyway.

Granted, I often exaggerate a little, to make a point, but this is often how it feels. Sick of everyone having a goddamned chip on their shoulder, and if I don't agree with or condone their choices, then I'm the one made out to be a hater or the oppressor.

Good!

Now woe to the GOP Senators threatening to filibuster the repeal of DADT when the military says they are good for repeal.
LOLWUT? Like the GOP had the gay vote anyway?
It's not about getting the "gay vote," it's about doing the right and honorable thing for the country.
The right and honorable thing according to some, not to everyone. You continue to position it that way. Once you go down that slope where you accept no viewpoint but your own you are every bit as ridiculous and intolerant as the Phelps crowd.
You're already down that slope. Now try to climb back up.
Are you retarded? I'm ok with the repeal. But not everyone is, and they have a right to be heard and considered without being demonized by smug prigs.

Seems to me a little more effort into choosing people that aren't the kind of dipsticks who copy classified information off the computers rather than who they prefer to sleep with, would go a long way.
The PFC who stole the stuff for WikiLeaks is gay.

Men aren't allowed to sleep in the same barracks with women because sooner or later some guy isn't going to be able to control his urges and a woman is going to wake up with some guy chewing on her nipples.

That setup worked just fine in Starship Troopers!

Oh - and why is everyone always calling white people Caucasian? Why are whites ok with that? Do they not know what Caucasian means?! I'm not Caucasian ... Sadly, I don't get a named ethnicity like minorities do - I'm simply "white" or "caucasian" on most forms, which doesn't describe me - hence my inability to fill out the census this year. :)

My white friend from Zimbabwe gets weird looks for referring to herself as African American - only ... unlike most African Americans in this country, she actually is.

Sorry - didn't meant to hijack the thread.
Just tired of this gay discussion. It's so gay.

And the Caucusus Mountains are right smack in between Russia, Turkey, and Iran - nowhere near where my family comes from. Hmm - I guess MrsKB is Caucasian, so I'd better 'halts maul'.

I don't recall ever filling out a form in the last 25 years asking me what my ethnicity is. Citizenship and residence yes, but never ethnicity.

Hey, let's set policy based on some men's inability to control their urges.

Great idea. :thumb:

Lar, I realize this will come as a shock to you but some men are able to control their urges.

Yeah - I've taken my genetic markers back through time via NG's web site - I'm not Caucasian any more than I am African. I suppose if we're all willing to go back about 60,000 years (I mean, if the trick to finding ethnic identity is going back further and further), then we're all African right? Following that logic, American Indians would also be African, or Eurasian - depending on how far back we want to go.

Ren: Interesting - pretty much every form here - including job applications asks for ethnicity/race/heritage. There are only four on the planet apparently, American Indian, African American, Hispanic/Latino, and Caucasian/White.

....and as per JBryan's first post, Cracker. For the record though we often have a question on federal g'ovt forms asking whether the applicant is First Nations, Inuit or Metis. But that is only because they are entitled to certain rights of process and subsidies under treaty and The Indian Act.

JBryan: I believe you mean "Pacific Islander."

That makes sense Ren.

My problem really isn't a big one. Being the non-racist that I am, I'm really not all that up in arms about anything having to do with race. Being second generation of immigrants I still have a strong personal tie to "where I'm from" - but it doesn't define me.
Just an interesting inconsistency. I just cringe a little when I hear the term "Caucasian" - as it doesn't describe all "white" people. I'd hate to insist though that people call me German-American or Swiss-American - I'm ok being known simply as white.

I think my wife would find it curious if not downright bizarre to discover she could be categorized as a Pacific Islander.

I agree.
I've seen many a form with only "Pacific Islander" for most Asian ethnicities.
Apparently China is considered by some to be an island in the Pacific Ocean - a really really sturdy one.

I'd imagine she finds it equally awkward and/or insulting for all Asians to be lumped together as one group.

True. Too bad that we can't all boast of being of Georgian or Armenian ancestry.

I'm going to start describing myself as a North-Sea Islander. It sounds quite exotic, as they I sit around all day eating herring and limbo dancing.
