HOLY CARP!!!
|
Partial snip: Washington (CNN) -- Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Tuesday the long awaited Pentagon report on the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy indicates that over two-thirds of service members do not object to gays and lesbians serving openly in the U.S. armed forces. Putting an end to "don't ask, don't tell" would have "some limited and isolated disruption to unit cohesion and retention," the year-long study found, but the effects would not be long-lasting or widespread. http://www.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/11/30/military.gay.policy/index.html?hpt=T1 |

Equality is impossible. |

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy | |

I am the grey one
|
This is the way it should be done. I have no problem with gays/lesbians serving in our armed forces but it is not up to me and it shouldn't be. Let the military determine whether it is a detriment to readiness or good order and discipline. They have higher priorities than not hurting the feelings of some specific group. |

Good! Now woe to the GOP Senators threatening to filibuster the repeal of DADT when the military says they are good for repeal. |

Seems to me a little more effort into choosing people that aren't the kind of dipsticks who copy classified information off the computers rather than who they prefer to sleep with, would go a long way. |

Yes, in theory the military may be loaded with gay people. They may even be a majority of the military. They just DADT. |

Men aren't allowed to sleep in the same barracks with women because sooner or later some guy isn't going to be able to control his urges and a woman is going to wake up with some guy chewing on her nipples. |

Why is making a large portion of those who volunteered to put their lives on the line for their country uncomfortable "doing the right and honorable thing for the country"? |

Nothing is more important than what gays want. If you are critical, then you are labeled a hater. If you question things like gay marriage or gays openly serving in the military, then they will seize the moral high ground and make their cause equal to that of blacks marching for equality, or the women's suffrage movement. Even you haven't voiced an opinion one way or the other and happen to be straight, married, and adopt a "live and let live" approach, you are labeled as a "breeder," and other hateful labels that gays try to slap on people. And yet, if you use a hateful label in return, calling someone a pole-smoker or a f4ggot, then you might as well have hauled off and called a black person a nigger. In fact, if you're a straight Caucasian male, you might as well start looking at applying for refugee status somewhere, because in the modern United States Of America, "Life, liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness," no longer applies to you. (Neither does the Bill of Rights, for that matter.) |

The right and honorable thing according to some, not to everyone. You continue to position it that way. Once you go down that slope where you accept no viewpoint but your own you are every bit as ridiculous and intolerant as the Phelps crowd. Now where exactly is this woe going to come from again? It may well be that most people do not oppose repeal, but that is a far cry from, them believing it is a very important issue facing the nation today. |

1. The mass majority are no longer "uncomfortable" with the idea. 2. "Comfortable" is not the right criterion to apply anyway. Neither gong through nor shooting at people nor getting shot at are "comfortable" things to do, but are part of the job description anyway. |

Are you a "straight Caucasian male"? Have you started looking at applying for refugee status somewhere else? If not, you clearly do not belief in what you have just wrote. May be you want the gays to apply for refugee status somewhere else. You really think "straight Caucasian males" have had it worse than the gays as far as "Life, liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness" is concerned? |
