The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy | |

They should at least allow you to choose the groper. |

I haven't flown since 2003. I was on youtube just typing in TSA harrassment and catching up on what it seems like a lot of people take for granted. It's gradual conditioning. I don't think it's right or healthy to progressively humiliate and dehumanize people in the name of freedom or safety. . . |

That's the refrain. Apparently everyone is falling for it. I don't see it stopping so I guess if you like to fly you have to give up a sense of autonomy over your body. |

I'm flying the 24th, I'll opt out as well. But I was at JFK just two weeks ago and they didn't have the scanners. Next trip is a different terminal though. |
| In my defense, I was left unsupervised. | |

I don't think anyone opposes reasonable security, but defining that is where the issue lies. |

it's not reasonable to pat people's genitals in the United States of America. Look at the video of the kid getting fondled and tell me it's for the good of the country. |

Disgusting... IMO, the Israelis have security perfected, and the United States needs to model their security after that of the Israelis. TSA is a fvcking joke. ![]() And let some TSA agent start manhandling my wife or daughter! I will be happy to spend the night in jail!

Frank, that was my other thought. As a parent I will feel sorta sick letting my tween boys go through an invasive search like this. I imagine the feeling would worse if I had a daughter. There are just too many people out there who would find this sort of thing devastating. |

I thought of that, and then realize that we have about 5300 public use airports in the US vs. 8 airports total in Israel. A system that works with 8 airports won't necessarily work with 5300. (However, I think it might work if we select a couple dozens of airports with the heaviest passenger traffic and apply the Israeli model on this select group of airports. Haven't think it through completely, but this idea seems to hold promise.) EDIT: Out of the 5300 or so "public use" airports in the US, only about 550 or so are "certificated", those that "serve air-carrier operations with aircraft seating more than 30 passengers." So the real contrast is 8 vs. 550 rather than 8 vs. 5300. Still, that's two orders of magnitude difference. Edited by Axtremus, Nov 16 2010, 06:19 AM.

The number is probably even smaller. There are 65 public use airports in Virginia - I've been to 47 of them. Probably less than a dozen would have any passenger security and maybe 2 (Dulles and National) would have the cancer-delivery scanners and sexual assault. It's just a show to address yesterday's threat. |
