Tell me about piano factory sponsored sales; and Baldwin pianos

I just received an email from a local piano dealer advertising a Baldwin factory sponsored sale. Are these types of sales legitimate? Or, is it just a marketing technique to get people into the store?

Baldwin Factory Sponsored Sale
Baldwin has temporarily suspended manufacturing at our plant in Trumann, Arkansas and we have moved some of our existing inventory to Plano, Texas where some of our classic American-made Baldwin pianos will be sold at savings of up to 60% off. Also included are our new models with deeply discounted prices.

How do the new Baldwins stand in terms quality? The sweetest piano I ever found, excluding the new Shigeru Kawai, was a pre 1970s SF-10. If I'd had the money at the time, I would have snatched it up. How do the new Baldwin models compare to the older ones? Should I go to this sale?

Mmmmmmm, pie!
It's just another sale, like any other sale, and nothing to get all excited about. If you're wanting a piano, the "deal" will be available whenever you walk in the door.

Think about it.... a factory in Arkansas "temporarily" (HAHAHAHAHAHA) suspends manufacturing, so they load them all up and haul them to Texas to sell them.... right....

"Savings up to 60% off" means "we've got a 50 year old Acrosonic spinet in the sale that we put a price tag of 2500 bucks on last week so that we could mark it down to 1299 for the sale"....

And I can't remember when Baldwin actually "temporarily"(HAHAHAHAHAHA) suspended production, but I think it was about two years ago. Maybe LD can remember the exact date..

Pretty much as Larry say's. I think Truman has been closed for awhile. And the quality "closed" ages ago.
And If I had to close out a bunch of piano's I doubt I would send them to Texas.
No offence to Texas, just that there are better markets around.

Thanks, guys. I kind of suspected as much but thought I'd ask.

It's a shame what happened to that company. There was a point where I would put an SF10 against about any piano in the world, the M was the best "little" grand out there, and the 243 Hamilton studios were beasts (meant in a good way).

And it's been longer than 2 years for the Truman factory. Oh, they might have had some finishing work, or even some re-work being done on sitting inventory, but I don't believe they actually started construction on a brand new piano since about 2006, and even by then the factory was closed more than it was open.
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

LsD: Very true - I was thinking it had been closed a lot longer - I think your estimate is much closer.

The piano I had before my Bosie was a Baldwin Hamilton.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

The pianos I had to move for my dad at $2.50 a move were mostly Baldwin Hamilton.

And I assure you, thew were indeed beasts.

The sweetest piano I've ever worked on was a 1995 SF-10. Possibly the best piano in all of San Diego county. I really, really liked the 'glides' installed in the upper treble sections in lieu of the bearing bar. It made tuning the upper treble a breeze.

My in-home piano is a 1921 Hamilton Manualo. The piano part of it is rock-solid to this day.
