If you want trouble, find yourself a redhead
I could seriously live in something like that if I were single.

Me too. I'd just have to make room for a piano.

I'm with Larry. You're gonna pick up a houseboat, get an actual houseboat.
I cite irreconcilable differences.

Yeah. My example was more of an "apartmentboat." :lol2:

^_^

To be more precise, an apartmentboat that would attract a certain demographic.

I've never quite "understood" houseboats. Obviously they are much more expensive per sqft than houses. They can be moved, but from what I understand they are rather pathetic as water vehicle. It only seems to make sense if you want to move your home frequently along inland waters. Or are there other reasons?

Zomdef. Take a minute to seriously consider it, and then I think the value will become all too clear.

You want waterfront property and can't afford the on land prices. A lot of houseboats are much smaller than other houses in the area.

I take that back. I'm thinking of 'foating homes', not proper houseboats.

I negotiated to buy the houseboat in those pictures earlier in the year, but the guy didn't seem to need to sell it bad enough..

Back in the late 80s I owned what is called a "boat house", as opposed to a "house boat". It's a huge floating house that's docked at a marina, built to house a houseboat. It had 3 bedrooms, a living room, a bed loft, a kitchen/dining room combination, and a full bath, a spiral staircase took you to the roof where it had a couple of tables with umbrellas sticking out of them bolted to the floor, some chairs, and a gas grill bolted down. You could sit up there and see for miles..

But when I had that, I didn't have a houseboat to put in it... hehe.. all I had was a ski boat. It was designed to let the houseboat pull inside and become a part of the total "house".. all I had was this little ski boat tied up in all that empty space. But - the coffee pot had a timer on it and it brewed into a thermos. So every morning, the clock would go off, and I'd grab my freshly brewed thermos of coffee, walk out into the "garage", get in my ski boat, hit the garage door opener, and off I'd go. Within 3 minutes or so I was sitting out in the middle of a cove somewhere drinking my coffee, listening to the animals and watching the sun come up. It was sheer heaven.

Oh - I need to add that I had just become a bachelor for the first time in years, so that was "home" at a time when peace and solitude was about the only thing that kept me sane...

In answer to your question Klaus, a lot of houseboat owners simply enjoy the weekend get togethers at the marina with the other houseboat owners, and never actually move their boats. I don't understand the appeal of that, either. But in my area the Tennessee River runs up near the UT football stadium, so when UT has home games, there's what's called the "UT Flotilla"... Hundreds of houseboats cruise up the river to gather in one place next to the stadium, and have the ultimate "tailgate party" all weekend.

That might be fun.....even though I wouldn't cross the road to watch a football game if they were passing out hundred dollar bills at the gate..

When my mom and dad were together, they liked the idea of one. Now that they're divorced, they both still like the idea, but I think my mom might seriously consider it soon. I think they're kinda cool.
And how are you today?

I have decided that what I want is a wooded lake lot with a cabin, and a nice big cabin cruiser that I can stay in overnight, but that is agile enough to actually enjoy boating..

That sounds like the best (although probably not the cheapest ^_^ ) of both worlds.
