Sick.
The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

In German TV there is a well-known Bert and Ernie spoof called Ert and Bernie. Ert and Bernie are gay drug addicts.

Meh... Tired of hearing about gay cartoon characters, gay Harry Potter characters, gay puppets, and on and on. Why do certain people make their sexual preference the whole centerpiece of their lives? Sexuality is only one small facet of humanity.

There was a time when I would have supported and voted for gay marriage. I'm so damn sick of hearing about it and reading ridiculous crap like this, that if gay marriage showed up on the ballot tomorrow, I'd probably just abstain from voting, altogether.

Heh. A friend and I used to do some fairly amusing (to us, at any rate) imitations based offf the whole gay Bert & Ernie thing.
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

+1.

(And it's probably a good thing you weren't around here a month or so ago.)

That's how it goes with the interwebs. Surely you don't think Twitter was invented so we could all catch the latest on what Stephen Hawking and Tim Burners Lee are up to?

Why do certain people make their political preference the whole centerpiece of their lives? Politics is only one small facet of humanity.

(I'm not talking about you, btw. Far from it. Just that I get the same sense of 'give it a rest, already' about other obsessions.)

Me too, Sue. I get sick of hearing about politics, too.

It used to be, people didn't discuss politics or religion. It would be nice to see a return to that, and if sexuality were added to that list. I'd rather judge a person by their character and personality, rather than their religion, political bent, or sexuality. None of those things are any of my business.

The way I see it:
A person's religion is between them and their God.
A person's politics are between them and the voting machine.
A person's sexuality is between them and their partner.

Quoting Frank_W, but the following comment is directed generically at people who share that same sentiment (i.e., it's not personal) --

That's a cop out. One does not shut oneself out from supporting what's right just because some one else complains about it louder than one would like them to.

What's next? Would you stop supporting Israel because some Jews make too much noise about being persecuted over the centuries? Would you stop supporting equal rights because some women speak too loudly about unequal pay? Would you stop supporting civil rights because some black pastor gave one sermon too many about the ills of racism? Would you stop supporting reducing the size of the federal government because the Tea Partiers held one rally too many in your neighborhood? Would you stop supporting the veterans because the VFW makes one solicitation phone call too many to you?

The right answer is NO.

You support a cause because you think it's right. To stop supporting a right cause because some one else makes too much noise about it is to surrender your moral stance to the cries of the mob -- a cop out.

Bert and Ernie are definitely gay - but not any more than these two:

And then there's the whole "sir" thing, I mean the evidence is everywhere.
