They're eating me up!

Do they still make a combination product for both?

I'm looking for a spray on, with DEET, high SPF, non greasy, waterproof, non stingy ( sweat gets in my eyes).

Is there anything good to try?

Not a lotion, but have you tried a Thermocell yet?

I use an spf 50 lotion, then a spray on bug spray (Off or cutter). I'm outdoors a lot during the peak mosquito hours as well as in the hot sun. This combo works really well. Was not happy with choices for combined stuff, mostly because I couldn't find any in most stores.

Citronella oil. That stuff will stop mosquitoes dead flat. You can't even get it here in the U.S. but maybe you can in Canada. My cousins gave me a bottle when they visited this year and it's the greatest stuff on earth.

Jolly, that product looks interesting. We're at 38-39 hundred feet so it could work on deck. It might be better than what we have now.

I was looking for something for me for sports. Combo products were banned here and have just learned why ... Safety & efficacy.

I personally can't stand citronella. Aqua, tell me what you use it for; if it's legal to send it, I'll send you a whole sh*tload of the stuff. They make it for decks, garden lamps, smear on yourself stuff, all that. I can't believe you folks don't have it down there.

Neutrogena is supposed to have a good spray on SPF 45 or 60 product. I could spray on the DEET afterwards.

What do the ladies use for sunscreen?

Well we have the candles, the coil things and stuff like that. But the one thing we don't have is the pure oil.

From Philadelphia, all the way down to Richmond, this here is swamp country. The mosquitoes in my area particularly are vicious. The pure oil's the only stuff from which they'll keep a respectable distance.

Oh and I can't stand the smell either but I'd rather reek of weird stuff than get eaten alive. :(

Hmm. I'm sure we can get that thru MEC. Have you tried REI?

No swamp country here but I've found just a little high concentration DEET smeared anywhere seems to provide overall protection. Like it stayson my hands or something. I use the Deep Woods stuff in the tiny green bottle. I kind of want something else for running though.

I have not! I still don't know how I feel about REI, I think a lot of what they have is not very functional, but I'll give 'em a shot.

That's a great product. Works against every single insect we have here.

Except for the mosquitoes, who just bathe in it.

We use thermocells during the early hunting season. They seem to be fairly effective for most folks and don't have quite as strong a smell as DEET products.

Of course you could always try this:

Jolly! That's it! That's what was banned in Canada. Did it once contain DEET?

Ijust read that the SPF protection is diminished by the bug deterrent. Part of the reason for it's ban. That was great stuff though. Felt good smelled good too.

Take a morning shower and right afterwards apply a chemical-free suncreen on arms, legs and face (they're whitish but they blend in well as long as your skin isn't dry).

We don't have a big mosquito problem here so I haven't used bug spray, but could you try misting yourself as you're on the way out the door? I would use as little DEET as possible.

I hate the feeling of thick, sticky lotions.

The Neutrogena spray is good, but only for second applications, IMHO. It doesn't cover as well and if you use enough of it, 1/4 of the can is used up so it's expensive. Plus it can leave a sticky feeling. I keep a spray in the car for use away from home.

What is chemical free sunscreen? Don't they all contain chemicals? Yeah, I know DEET is no-no bad but I can't stop.
