1) I don't want anyone to know who I am. If it were possible for someone to trace my name and opinions, it could be used against me. I know Brenda knows what I'm talking about. Anyone else understand?
I thought (at least they SHOUT IT all the time) America is a FREE country and the speech is FREE too. I thought no one in AMERICA fears because of his opinions. I thought no one in AMERICA is afraid to EXIST, to be "traced down"... Of course, in the former communist countries this was not true, communism was evil, but in AMERICA... well, in AMERICA, where everybody is so afraid that the country will become "communist", everyone is FREE and FEARLESS !!!!

Where I am wrong ?

The fact is Radu that there are those who, for one reason or another, seek out the writings of others in order to harm them.

The problem is not one of privacy, but of civility. When one loses civility in order to achieve their goals, and we see that all the time these days, they jeopardize that very freedom.

I know of one member (and his family) who was threatened by another via PM.

Who is this Rainman?

A new member, I suppose...don't know a darn thing about him...
Newer, I suppose. Check out his post count, he's been around before.

Glad to see you back, man.
I have my tongue poked firmly through the side of my cheek, while making a comment that connects obtusely with rainman's desire to remain anonymus.

I remember the Rainman well.

Senility does not yet clutch my mind, although I bear the scratches of an occasional warm embrace.

Radu, as an elected official, I have had my opponents search city hall, the county courthouse, current employment records, past employers, my church, etc. looking for any 'dirt' they can find about me. Then they print lies in the press about me. One time they did such a poor job researching that they thought I had not worked for an employer as stated on my campaign literature. It was actually funny to have people from that workplace send letters to the editor telling about my work with them. Lemonade anyone? I've made quite a bit of it.

Radu, the world has ugliness in it, and it has hit me hard sometimes. As I noted before, the cost-benefit ratio is not the same for all of us. Some of us are targets. Keep in mind that my family must deal with this also. For their sake, I'm currently taking a break from candidacy. It's especially ugly to see your family hit by such things.

I have a lot of fun here at TNCR anyway, so I'm selective about when to get involved in hot topics. I just choose carefully and with the thought of possible costs.

BTW, Radu, despite all the opposition's research, they found nothing. I mean NOTHING they could say nasty about me that was true. They had to fabricate dirty things to say about me, and because they were fabrications, the lies were really outrageous.

I hope they spend bundles of money on all the private investigators. And how do I know about the investigations? I was called by the staff at city hall and told about it. I was called by my employer and told about it. I was told by several people who knew first hand about it. I told them I expected it, and that I was fine with it. It comes with the territory.

The lies the other party got printed in the press were interesting. That the press didn't care to verify the truth was interesting. That the corrections were seldom printed, or placed in obscure locations, was expected.

Sorry. This is more than you probably wanted to know.

Apparantly they weren't aware of your "Hooking". Hmmm, That might be worth a few dollars.
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

Oh, I push the hooking stuff here for a reason, LD. I would LOVE to have them put out something saying I was involved in 'hooking'. BRING IT ON, BABY!!!

Hi All.

I drop by once in awhile, but no posts. Why? Two reasons:
1) I don't want anyone to know who I am. If it were possible for someone to trace my name and opinions, it could be used against me. I know Brenda knows what I'm talking about. Anyone else understand?

Best,

The Rainman
Don't tell us that you're Dustin Hoffman and you've been playing the role of "Rain Man" here on TNCR?

You're the third person to return here after a long absence. The forum has been suffering from a declining membership. Very few new people come here. Ask the forum administrator if there's any promotional gifts being given to returning long lost members.

Brenda is spot-on.

Made me think of one light-weight example:
I walked back into a contentious meeting, and during the brief silence as I walked in I quipped, "just went to see if I needed a new set of tires."

I thought it was funny!

Turns out a lot of people were supposedly "offended" by my comment. . .

Pretty thin-skinned, weren't they? :lol2:

Of course, that is the other side of the civility equation. To not assume the worst about the words and actions of others.

You and I need to compare our backgrounds, Rainman, but of course it would have to be by personal messages. Thanks for saying I was spot-on. I love that phrase and love to be called spot-on. When you're an old gal like me, it sounds so cool. :lol2:

I also thought your tires line was a hoot. I would have laughed.

I'm so glad you're back.
