Why don't I post here (or anywhere)?; carefully saying hello

Hi All.

I drop by once in awhile, but no posts. Why? Two reasons:
1) I don't want anyone to know who I am. If it were possible for someone to trace my name and opinions, it could be used against me. I know Brenda knows what I'm talking about. Anyone else understand?

2) My nephew's death. I finally read tonight (after 2 years) PM messages sent to me about my nephew's death. An Army Ranger Captain, he died of his wounds received in Iraq. Until tonight, I never read the private PMs sent to me (I knew they existed, but could not read them), and now I sit here with tears, such heartfelt messages to me that I never read, I just could not read. . . What an idiot. Time heals, things are OK. What kind messages from people I've never met. . . !

Anyway, a "hi" to all, whether you know me or not. I hope to join in, as it's fun as I remember to have the banter within a virtual friendship.

Best,

The Rainman

Rainman, it's very good to hear from you again. I understand your need for anonymity. Still, I hope you stay part of our family and chime in from time to time. I hope you're doing well. ^_^

My condolences for your nephew.

Thanks.

The founding of the bulk of the world's nation states post 1914 is based on self-defined nationalisms. The bulk of those national movements involve territory that was ethnically mixed. The foundation of many of those nation states involved population movements in the aftermath. Hi Rainman. I think if you stick to Brenda's baking threads, you'll be safe. (I'd stay away from her hooking threads, and some of the other saucier Brenda threads).

I'd also stay away from the lolcats. They might be ok, but they might not, too!

Great to see you.

Anyone posting here remembers you and Drew and what an incredibly sad circumstance. i cannot imagine - but wish you and your family any comfort this world can provide. There's no replacing, no compensating for what your family has had to endure. I do hope you come back - but wish you well no matter what you choose.

I have my tongue poked firmly through the side of my cheek, while making a comment that connects obtusely with rainman's desire to remain anonymus.

I remember the Rainman well.

Hi Jolly,

I got it, tounge-in-cheek comment.

Thanks everyone for the kind words and welcome. Now, this thread can close and I'll go find someplace (thread) to cause some trouble.

Hi Rainman! I do miss your input. I still don't have a motorcycle but do have vague plans to go thru the training course. Wish you could come back and tell me 1) if your avatar pic is real or photoshopped and 2) if it is you. Sorry to hear it is still difficult to think about the loss of your nephew. There is no one I hold higher in my esteem then someone that gives their life in the service of others.

Hi Kincaid,

It is me, but not my bike (same bike as mine, but jetted, geared down a bit, and belt drive). As I recall, that picture was taken near Bagby Hot Springs several years ago, on a ride a group of us made from Estacada to Detroit Lake. Came very close to spilling my beer. . .

Hey, Rainman! I've missed you. Don't tell the others, but you're one of my favorites.

Yes, I still have to be careful about what I post here, too, and I know some think that means I'm afraid of controversial threads. I have no fear, just an awareness that the cost-benefit ratio for me is likely higher than for others who participate in such discussions. It's rational behavior and impatience, not fear, that keeps me from getting embroiled. I have less patience than many of the other forum members here.

God bless you and your family in your loss. I hesitate to say that people recover from such a loss, but with God's grace we learn to live with the loss and move forward again.

I'm hoping you can stay around and keep us company here. Have you ever heard of a Hobart? :)
