HOLY CARP!!!
So I'm working at the church this afternoon, trying to get everything done that needs done for this Sunday's service, before moderating the meeting of the Session this evening, and starting to worry that I'm not going to get it all done, when the phone rings. It's my music director, whose main occupation is running a banquet facility/reception hall in town. She hosts a lot of wedding receptions, and no small number of actual weddings. She tells me that she's been working with this particular couple for a while, and as it turns out the minister they'd been planning on using was no longer able to do the service. So she told the couple about me, and asked if I'd be interested & able to perform their service. I said it would probably work, and she sent them over to the church for us to meet and talk.

The bride is a transplant to Ohio from Indiana, and the groom is a native of England. Among other things, I asked how they'd met. They told me that they met online. Seems they're both gamers, very much into playing Urban Terror online. She was a n00b who needed a lot of help getting up to speed, and he is an "Alpha DW," which, based on their conversation (only about 75% of which I actually understood), I assume is an Admin of some sort. They got all worked up telling me about this amazing group of people that they associate with online, how it's like a real community made up of all different kinds of people, from literally around the world. I just nodded and stroked my chin thoughtfully. In any case, I guess Alpha DW took the n00b under his wing, teaching her how to navigate jumps (apparently, she kept breaking her legs falling/jumping off buildings or something, and since he's a guy who designs the terrains in these games, he could give her pointers) as she was running around killing people.

So one thing led to another, and before you knew it he had decided to emigrate to the States, and now they're getting married.

Love, 21st-century style. ^_^

Wonder where they'll go for the honeymoon. Maybe just on-line?

Will they have an on-line ceremony or reception?

At very least, they should set up a live video feed to include all their online friends at the reception. I think they're ending up with the only minister in town who would find their story relatively sane and normal.

Oh, wow. What a story to tell all the people that have or are going to ask 'How'd you two meet?'

And how are you today?

Terrific story!

Love finds it's people in many places.

I think the live feed at the recption is a good idea too.

Hey Dewey, just an aside, but my kid (baptized non practicing catholic) now says he wants to check out the local church down the street on a Sunday. His idea. It does seem the friendiest show on the block. I said sure - Go for it! I might even go too. It's a Lutheran gig. They'd take newbie types, would ya think? I go by it on my runs. Should I ask to see if a 16 y.o. Could visit?

I don't suppose you told them about this place...

Yeap.

A good friend of mine met his girlfriend through WoW. There were a good 5-6 of us who all played together, in addition to the 34 others in our group. She lived in a ridiculously small town in Alabama where for example it was customary to get hitched or at least engaged by the time you're 18. (She was 21 and had already been divorced.) Long story short they moved in together in Texas, then both started teaching English in Korea together. They've been there for the past 2 or so years. One guy lives in San Diego, another in Seattle and the sixth lives just down the road from me. He's as good at frolf as he was at BGs.

So far I've met every one of those 5-6 guys we used to play with regularly. Not exactly the type of folk you'd meet at a Starbucks but a real fun group. ^_^

We're all anxiously awaiting D3 to come out.
I cite irreconcilable differences.
