Very scary. My sympathies to all of you. Some very good advice expressed here too. I learned some things. I need to be more cautious with my credit. This is for sure. |

Here's the scam: You order sheet music from an "affiliate" at Amazon or anywhere else. The bad guy places the order from a legitimate business using your info. You get the music, everything is fine. But, the Bad Guy has your card info, and hangs on to it for months. After several months go by, he sells it. Very hard to trace. |

I have sold things through Amazon. I have never received any personal information about the buyer, other than his address. Payment is made to Amazon by the buyer, and after Amazon takes its cut, transferred directly to me. |

Hi Dr. George, This happened maybe 5 years ago. I found out via the customer, who contacted me and wondered why she had been charged more than the listed price. I had no idea what she was talking about. Then, she directed me to the link she used on the Amazon site. The bad guy did not realize there had been a price increase. I contacted Amazon several times, and received generic "we care about security" responses. Then I emailed that I would put up a warning about buying on Amazon. That worked. I was contacted by security people, etc., the bad guy was shut down (or at least his listings were removed). Keep in mind that he was set up to look like a business, complete with SSL and able to take credit card info for the purchase. But, you're probably right. This was years ago, they have undoubtedly closed all these potential loopholes. Musicasacra might know about security improvements. Personally, I will buy from Amazon, no problem. But, I will not enter card info anywhere unless I'm totally sure it's a legitimate business. Kinda paranoid by nature, I guess. |

Look Brenda, if I bought 50 pounds of flour at a time, my wife would know I was half baked. |

Ewww. No, thanks. I'm a Minnesooootan. We have higher standards than that. (There is a very long tradition of Minnesooootans telling Iowa jokes.) |
