Perhaps, but in my experience the Internet has done the reverse at least in the political sphere. On the more benign end, it has allowed (and perhaps encouraged) people of a particular set of views to find their niche more easily... and then to stay there in the hothouse of self-congratulation.

At the more malign end, the Internet also allows truly degraded views and despicable people to find each other, and in that finding to enjoy more self-respect.
