I think fantasies featuring oiled cheerleaders and hot-tubs are probably healthier. More realistic, too, come to that.

Just one illustration of how the popular vote idea is a bad one. It ain't broke - don't fix it.

I've been laughing about this compact since I first read about it last month. Absurd. All they are doing is diminishing the power of their vote.

Of course, the writer did miss one thing. While the election of 2000 might have been the impetus for this on a national level, the timing behind them adopting it now indicates that the real cause of this being pushed forward was the election of Scott Brown. I'm thinking that they might be a little concerned about where their electoral votes would go in the current political landscape.
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

I read a bit of her book in a store a week or so ago, btw. Unimpressive doesn't even begin to describe it. I'm sure it's interesting to political buffs and her supporters who are going to like anything she says anyway, but stylistically the book reads like an 8th grade book report.
I cite irreconcilable differences.

I don't think anybody can defend her as one of the great thinkers of our time...

Yeah but I don't think I'd place Barry in that category, either. ^_^

So is that above or below the voting population's level?
The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

You have to ask that question, given the population in Washington?

Stephanie Meyer's a national bestseller, what does that tell you.

Personally I'd rather see politicians raise the bar rather than meet it.

In that case, you must read Obama's two books. :D

Read a good chunk of Audacity of Hope too, back when it came out. A co-worker was reading through it and I'd pick it up when orders came in.

It's slightly better in terms of style, but so freaking polished (like a lot of political books) it sounded in the ear like some kind of ghostwriter committee wrote each paragraph.

I don't like to read a lot of political books.
