Brahms on a theme by Haendel op.24 Beethoven C min, & Eroica if you shorten the long Wurst Coda after the fugue :-p Webern op.27 if you're particularly brave edit: just relistened, I love them, actually. (I played the Webern for my entrance exam at the conservatory 20y ago, half of the jury wasn't pleased, the other thought of me as a clever guy for the choice, & because I played them from memory :-) Funny reactions all in all) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-V_niGEXisA Edited by PhJ, Aug 1 2010, 03:27 PM.

Good list, I'd add the Arietta from LvB Op 110. |

i really like variations.. they help me be a better creative, on the fly pianist. To my Corelli I add the Paginini, Beethoven Eccossaises (simple for children), Twinkle, Twinkle Recently some music a Ponce was shared with me.. variations on Handel's sonata((?) 4. i don't know if it is variations, but it sure is fun. |

I would add the Haydn F minor variations. Also Beethoven 'Eroica' variations, Brahm Pagannini variations. If you're including chaconnes and pasacaglias, I would include the Bach-Busoni Chaconne in D minor. Edited by Phlebas, Aug 2 2010, 05:57 AM.

Random FML: Today, I was fired by my boss in front of my coworkers. It would have been nice if I could have left the building before they started celebrating. FML The founding of the bulk of the world's nation states post 1914 is based on self-defined nationalisms. The bulk of those national movements involve territory that was ethnically mixed. The foundation of many of those nation states involved population movements in the aftermath. When the only one that is repeatedly held up as unjust and unjustifiable is the Zionist project, the term anti-semitism may very well be appropriate. - P*D | |

the eroica are there (with some minor reservation :-) ), but how could I forget the Brahms / Pagannini ? (maybe because I've never been able to play them even half decently, damn are they though) |

Brahms opus 21 #1, just beautiful. Give them a try. One of the undiscovered masterpieces within classical literature IMO. |

Gah! My favorite variation of the entire set, the one I find painfully beautiful, the simplest one, is cut off at the end there. SOrry about that. But it is a beautiful performance IMO. Here's the second part, which gives the ending of that variation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cU4-I0zCEj4&feature=channel (this guy is pretty amazing.) |
