Muslims are meant to pray in the direction of the most sacred site in Islam, known as the Kaaba, a large granite structure in the holy city of Mecca. Villagers in Hadda, 20 kilometres north-west of Mecca, should have prayed southeast, but instead bent down five times a day in a northern direction. After realizing the error, the mosque's leaders changed the direction of the prayer carpets so the worshippers now face the Kaaba. =-=-=-=-=-=-= Oopsie! Edited by George K, Jul 30 2010, 04:17 PM.

When I saw the big mosque off the freeway in Toledo - this must have been 25 years ago.. I had this urge to build a really tacky trailer park to the east of it and call it Mecca. |

Random FML: Today, I was fired by my boss in front of my coworkers. It would have been nice if I could have left the building before they started celebrating. FML The founding of the bulk of the world's nation states post 1914 is based on self-defined nationalisms. The bulk of those national movements involve territory that was ethnically mixed. The foundation of many of those nation states involved population movements in the aftermath. When the only one that is repeatedly held up as unjust and unjustifiable is the Zionist project, the term anti-semitism may very well be appropriate. - P*D | |

Actually, I've been eating halal quite a bit lately. There's a new Mediterranean restaurant near work that is really good. They advertise being halal on the menu. Great schwarmas, tabouleh, falafels and their little cashew pastries are fantastic. |
