The founding of the bulk of the world's nation states post 1914 is based on self-defined nationalisms. The bulk of those national movements involve territory that was ethnically mixed. The foundation of many of those nation states involved population movements in the aftermath. When the only one that is repeatedly held up as unjust and unjustifiable is the Zionist project, the term anti-semitism may very well be appropriate. - P*D

HOLY CARP!!!
This made the rounds at the office a few days back and we couldn't get enough of it.
What you have to know is, she started this with a rant about how awesome she is, which of course brought the trolls. She responded with her brain slushy comment and then things really took off. What did she expect insulting the Internet as a whole? Everyone knows you bring the 7 plagues upon yourself when you do that.

My absolute favorite is her Father's claim to be "back-tracing" people, so that he knows who it is and where it's comin' from.

His reference to the "cyber-police" was a hoot, too.

There is a line we cross when we go from "I will believe it when I see it" to "I will see it when I believe it".

As much as her rants - and herself, to be honest - are unlovely, it's really the parents responsibility to limit a kids access to computers. You can't expect her to realize the implications of posting stupid stuff on the Web. Just disable the Webcam, and monitor her usage. It's not that hard.

Also, i love the way the reporter made a point to say "Jessi Slaughter is her online name. We are not using her real name." Then the mother comes on , and he says, "This is ___ ____," using the real last name, and the fact they live in Florida.

Also, i love the way the mother deflects any criticism away from her kid. "The pop a glock... comment came from a song from this Web site..."

Phlebas: You're absolutely right. Her parents are at fault.
Though she's old enough, and clearly tech-savvy enough to understand enough about how the Internet works to understand that airing some sort of superiority to a medium where all are truly equal will quickly cause you be ridiculed or worse.

Maybe she ought to play a lovely Chopin Waltz instead. Then she would get nothing but nice, cultured, and intellectual youtube commentary instead. :lol2:

She certainly wouldn't get trolled as hard as she did. Look at the classical music videos on youtube, the majority of the comments are good, with a few unsavory types. Nothing like the trolling you experience when you tell youtube you're better than everyone else.
