Finally
...the level of surveillance in the country would rise to new heights and invade my privacy, and they were right!

White House proposal would ease FBI access to records of Internet activity

The Obama administration is seeking to make it easier for the FBI to compel companies to turn over records of an individual's Internet activity without a court order if agents deem the information relevant to a terrorism or intelligence investigation.

The administration wants to add just four words -- "electronic communication transactional records" -- to a list of items that the law says the FBI may demand without a judge's approval. Government lawyers say this category of information includes the addresses to which an Internet user sends e-mail; the times and dates e-mail was sent and received; and possibly a user's browser history. It does not include, the lawyers hasten to point out, the "content" of e-mail or other Internet communication.

But what officials portray as a technical clarification designed to remedy a legal ambiguity strikes industry lawyers and privacy advocates as an expansion of the power the government wields through so-called national security letters. These missives, which can be issued by an FBI field office on its own authority, require the recipient to provide the requested information and to keep the request secret. They are the mechanism the government would use to obtain the electronic records.

It's a crying damn shame the Feds don't consider our porous borders a national security issue. Maybe we could give the illegals a laptop with wifi as they cross the border.

I heard this on the radio today. Even NPR is turning on Obama.

Not to worry. They're passing laws to make sure the police can't be surveiled. Based on the slippery slope principle, it's only a matter of time before we private citizens can't be surveiled either.
As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?

I'm starting to wonder if illegal immigrants have more right to privacy than we citizens.

There's something fundamentally wrong with the assumptions currently being made by Washington about the way they should tackle problems such as homeland security. And let's face it, it's not just Obama's bunch who have little respect for privacy, they're just building on what the last bunch of cowboys started. My guess is that if you put Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld in a room with Obama's group, whoever the hell they are, they'd all pretty much be in agreement with one another about what needed to be done, and most likely complain about how ungrateful the citizenry are about the fact that they're being protected.

I'm not even that big on privacy, certainly not by American standards - but even I can see this is bloody awful.
