Yeah, you lefties are gonna say "See? You conservatives are racist!

What nerve! What gall! Why, any man who makes such a statement should be shunned. Hell, he should be shot!

Oh......

those aren't my words - I don't think African Americans are a "mongrel people".

Those are the words of your president, Mr. Barack Obama. He said that today on the TV show "The View".

I wonder what Whoopie Goldberg thought about that.....

Mongrel

Sounds just about right to me. I certainly fit the description, being half and half. My kids do as well. Something wrong with the term? Indeed, the term is often used in a derogatory way. But it's certainly apt for most of us. I'm certainly not a 'pure bred,' whatever that might mean.

Nothing other than the fact that unless you're referring to a dog, the word "mongrel" is fully understood to be meant in a very derogatory way.

Try this little test - go to some place called Leroy's Rib Shack and tell the cook there that he's a mongrel. See what happens.... :D

I've heard the term used by a number of African Americans and it's completely accurate. There are very few African Americans whose heritage is purely African. Virtually the entire gene pool has been mixed with caucasion blood stemming from the days of slavery when rape by and relationships with the masters was the norm.

Can anyone name anyone whose heritage is pure?

And whose ancestors were not enslaved and raped?
The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

I don't think too many of my Czech and German ancestors were enslaved and raped. But, yes, we Americans are largely mongrels. That's what makes us great, IMO.

My Irish side knew a few things about abuse and about being treated as sub-human. Oh, and they were mongrels too. A Celtic overlay over a pre-Celtic population. Mix in a dash of Anglo-Norman, a few wayward Spaniards and French, a heck of a lot of Scots (who were originally Irish, anyway), and a few 'pure' English. Oh, and then there were those leprechauns too. Hey, I think even the occasional Jew got in there somehow, like Gerald Goldberg, Lord Mayor of Cork!

I suspect you haven't read much about the Thirty Years War. You might find C. V. Wedgwood's account interesting.

They were raped and enslaved.

They all also have common African ancestors.

In fact all humans have a single common African ancestor.

I guess you could make the case that she was a pure breed, but there have been none since.

PS. I have described my heritage as "mutt" for many years. "Mongrel" is equally applicable.

PPS. Don't expect to hear any defense of the CINC(Corporatist IN Chief) from the likes of me.

You stupid twit, if George Bush had called black people mongrels you'd STILL be foaming at the mouth over it.

Do you have any examples of Kathy calling Bush a racist? He's been criticized for a lot of things, but racism is generally not one of them.
This is just another of your trying-to-pick-a-fight threads, which - like a lot of the others - didn't work.

The founding of the bulk of the world's nation states post 1914 is based on self-defined nationalisms. The bulk of those national movements involve territory that was ethnically mixed. The foundation of many of those nation states involved population movements in the aftermath. When the only one that is repeatedly held up as unjust and unjustifiable is the Zionist project, the term anti-semitism may very well be appropriate. - P*D

No Phlebas, it's the ideas that are being attacked. In much the same way that my mongrel race attacked the ideas of all the other races in the world.

Well, so long as we're on the subject of ideas, there is one in Larry's post. Is this Obama mongrel thing similar to it being OK for blacks to call each other derogatory names but no one else?

And he does have a point in that if Bush had said it the outrage would have been enormous.

You can just imagine the conversation - (in Latin, obviously)

'my liege, in yonder clearing we spied a number of native redheads wearing rather fetching skirts'

'bring one of these temptresses to me so that I may regale her with my Latin charm'

'Er....but my liege....'

'Do it now, I say!'

[Enter kilted individual, reeking of stale whisky, sheep and winking lasciviously at said Roman before demonstrating an apparent total lack of underwear]

'Who is this charming ......er........BY JUPITER'S BEARD!!!!!!'

'Centurion - BUILD ME A WALL'

'But, your Lordliness....we don't have the manpower'

'BUILD ME A FREAKING WALLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!'
