HOLY CARP!!!
One thing I love about Colorado - virtually no rot, termites, creepy crawlies, etc..

Of course we have right across the street, plague carrying prairie dogs, a nesting pair of bald eagles, red foxes, a very LOUD pack of coyotes (who cackle all night long when they catch a neighborhood dog) and rattle snakes. Further along than across the street (back country to be exact) one runs into moose, bear, and mountain lion. Two of those I've seen in the wild - no moose yet (they're rar on this side of the divide, but not unheard of).
Still - I'll take *real* critters over snakes, spiders, and everything else I see on Billy the Exterminator living in LA.

That's to George, but applies to Jolly's post too.

Evaporation of sweat from the skin surface has a cooling effect due to the latent heat of evaporation of water. Hence, in hot weather, or when the individual's muscles heat up due to exertion, more sweat is produced. Sweating is increased by nervousness and nausea and decreased by cold. Animals with few sweat glands, such as dogs, accomplish similar temperature regulation results by panting, which evaporates water from the moist lining of the oral cavity and pharynx. Primates and horses have armpits that sweat like those of humans. Although sweating is found in a wide variety of mammals,[4][5] relatively few, such as humans and horses, produce large amounts of sweat in order to cool down

Evaporative cooling - physics at work! Your skin acts much like a swamp cooler does.
I can go into more detail if any wants more info - though I bet I'm one of the few who geeks out yearning to learn things like this.

Fairly new home, same realtor as the first house...again, in a small town. You just can't move this type home in a small town...not around here...

That pier foundation - I've never seen one like it. Not surprising - earthquake-resistant it ain't. Makes sense in a damp climate though - any sort of enclosed crawl space is going to encourage rot.

Is it common in your area? Or is the house in an area prone to flooding?
In older homes, that's all you see.

Basements are pretty much unheard of in any residential construction and slab foundations didn't start until after WWII.

In South Carolina, they have a saying, "Only poor people build on a slab".

I admit there's stuff about it I don't are for either...the kitchen cabinets suck...but that all that cypress in the rest of the house cost a pretty penny.

Does a plantation come with it? $299K would be a bargain if it wasn’t located way out on Tobacco Road. From the photo, it doesn’t look like it has 7,000 square feet which is basically too big for a typical nuclear family.

I can see it being divided up into multiple units. If there are colleges located near by, it could be rented out to students. Lots of Vietnamese have been settling in LA. Don’t know if they have large families like other South Asians. In my city, a South Asian family will buy a large building for themselves and house all their extended family members and relatives in it.

I remember when we first moved out to Peterborough, Ontario we couldn't believe how cheap the houses were. So we bought something way bigger than we needed for only $135K Cdn. Then we got our first winter heating bill.... :hair:
What do you mean "we", have you got a mouse in your pocket?

Nope, just an acre of land.

But if you want land, look at my last link. Same type house (actually, even nicer) and 640 acres.
