Man, you leftwing goobers sure can spin things, can't you? The judge rules against the White House, but then strips a few components out of the law, and you see it as "blocking the law"...

Did you even read the article? I didn't say the judge threw out the whole law, just provisions of it.

And this "leftwing goober" actually agrees with the Arizona law. It's about friggin time we started identifying these illegal leeches and give em the boot.

Sorry I don't fit into your compartmentalization.

The judge's ruling is...interesting. She overturns that portion of the law not because it differs from the federal law, but because it would be too difficult to enforce.

That's interesting legal theory: issue an injunction because the law is too hard to enforce.

Andy McCarthy (former US Prosecutor) writes (emphasis in original): http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=NjMyZmVkMmUzYWIxYTAzY2QxOTA0ZDg5OWQyYzg1MzQ=

Quote:

On a quick read, the federal court's issuance of a temporary injunction against enforcement of the major provisions of the Arizona immigration law appears specious.

In essence, Judge Susan Bolton bought the Justice Department's preemption argument - i.e., the claim that the federal government has broad and exclusive authority to regulate immigration, and therefore that any state measure that is inconsistent with federal law is invalid. The Arizona law is completely consistent with federal law. The judge, however, twisted to concept of federal law into federal enforcement practices (or, as it happens, lack thereof). In effect, the court is saying that if the feds refuse to enforce the law the states can't do it either because doing so would transgress the federal policy of non-enforcement ... which is nuts.

More intriguing is that Arizona can arrest all the illegals they like but they have to hold them until the Feds deport them. Arizona police are not allowed to do it themselves.

Question remains just how eager the Feds are going to be to do the transporting on any sort of timely basis, and just how much detaining illegals on the state taxpayers dime is going to cost the taxpayers of Arizona. The state is having budget issues as it is - should make for a good fight.

Also never mentioned is just how long it will take deportees to get back over the line once deported. Not long if recent history is any indication, although I'm told it costs more now than it used to.

I think Arizona's motivation is simple: The current administration said clearly that they weren't going to have anything to do with this issue in the first 4 years, as they had more important things to do like shove healthcare down our collective throat. I think Arizona has said "fine, you won't do anything then we will." And it's worked gloriously - the country is up in arms about it, and whether it lasts or not is inconsequential - our elected leaders are being forced to take a stand on this issue, and that's a good thing.

The Feds assert illegal immigration is their jurisdiction. Fine. Do the damn job then.

I'd love to see Arizona arrest them, and if the Feds wouldn't get off their asses and do their job, bill the Feds for reimbursement of the costs. And if the Feds refuse to pay the bill, sue 'em. Let's see how long it takes the rest of the country to get pissed off that the Feds won't do their damn job when they are paying the bill instead of the residents in Arizona.

I think we should dismantle every part of the federal government except the military, and start a new central government outside Washington DC that is based on what the founding fathers originally had in mind.....

Hope it works. CA has been footing the bill for illegals in our State prisons for years.

OTOH, the whole plan falls apart if the borders aren't secure.

And they aren't.

Some of The founding fathers were against a standing army.
There.
Some of them were against freeing the slaves or letting the women vote, too.

So I suppose what Larry really meant to say was "... and start a new central government outside Washington DC that is based on what some of the founding fathers originally had in mind....." :D

Yep. It's a sanctuary city. No problem. 'Course making the rent on those wages might be tough.
