I will be seriously, seriously pissed if we ever reach the day that there are a significant number of books you can only buy via an e-Reader. |

I'd like to know how many of them are sold on Kindle devices vs. the Kindle app on Apple devices. |

Quite interesting. Is it really that common in the US to buy ebooks? Over here the market share of ebooks is still in the <1% range, hence I am quite surprised that it is already more than 50% in the US. I buy lots of books (I'd say for more than $2K per year), most of them English books, but I haven't bought a single ebook yet. |

Its not more than 50% - it compares it to hardcover. Softcovers outsell hardcovers by a wide margin. |

Price...just sayin'... Why buy a book for $25-30 when you can read it for $10? |

Because to some people, writing in the margins, underlining, etc. is very important. |

I always underline and highlight the the dirty bits. You can't do that on a freaking kindle. Well, actually you can, but only the one time.

Actually you can. (sort of) ![]() Kindle has a mechanism for making annotations. I don't find it very useful. the silly little keyboard is almost unusable from my perspective. What the Kindle does best (for me) is to be a reader for my aging eyes. I look at LCD screens all day long at work and they are just too hard on the eyes to read seriously on. DTBs (dead tree book ) are also hard on my eyes. The point size of the print is usually too small for extended reading. I get fatigued in less than half an hour. The EInk reflective screen and the adjustable font size make it very easy on my eyes. I can read for several hours straight without fatigue. My reading speed is almost back to what is was when my eyes were younger. This is a godsend.I've bought more than 100 ebooks in the last year. Another side benefit is that they don't take up space in my home. We already have several thousand books and storage is a problem. Its really hard for me to let go of a book. ![]() What the Kindle doesn't do well: Web Browsing (yuck!) Organizing your books (no folder structure) Materiel with pictures, charts, graphics, etc. Technical manuals seem to work better in paper All this said, I love reading on my kindle and average two hours per day doing it.
