In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

If sealed well it could have lasted quite well in the cool temperatures of the Baltic.

That said, I fixed dinner for my landlords tonight, Veal Chops Milanese (my style, with parmesan), fantastic caprese salad (Trader Joe's buffalo mozzarella is the shiz) and penne with butter, garlic and northern Italian herbs. Wines were a 2003 6th Sense syrah, 2007 Four Graces Oregon pinot noir and a 2004 St. Emilion.. forget the producer.

when a ship sinks any unopened bottles of wine in the cargo hold will stay comfortably intact being stored in the kinds of conditions that wine lovers can only dream about (absolutely constant temperature, zero vibration, no light whatever). true, the labels will rot away but, especially with a bottle of wine made by the champagne method the cork and the seal will remain fully intact.

Tonight, a nice bottle of Rappahannock Cellars Chardonnel. It's a blend of 75% Chardonnay and 25% Vidal Blanc. My wife and I are rather partial to a group of new Virginia wineries. They're producing very fine wines.

Now, about that Baltic champagne .....
