I was just googling around, and I came across this guy: I'd say his Bach is ... unusual. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CBpLD9yWu-0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9y7m00azMw And some Debussy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TpPo_dFZz7Q Edited by George K, Jul 17 2010, 05:35 PM.

I really like the Beethoven, unusual indeed but nice. I'd love to hear him play Schubert. |

Nice playing. His "emotion" is just a tad over the top. Very "Gould'ish" which makes it even stranger. |

I don't understand how some people can have descent technique, and an ok sound, but have no idea about the fact that music has rhythm, and an underlying pulse. The last movement of that Beethoven is supposed to be flowing perpetual motion. This guy plays it like CHOP CHOP SLOW DOWN LISTEN TO HOW I PLAY THE LH REALLY LOUD HERE STOP SUDDENLY SOFT NOW ITS FFFF AGAIN STOP NOW SOFT. The Bach was pretty much the same. Simple, basic piece, but at the end you expected to see a guy with paddles yelling CLEAR!! |

Overdone on the rubatto but i enjoyed the beethoven and to a lesser extent the bach. Didn't listen to the other one. These sorts of over the top interpretations are sort of like children's books with really large type and simple words. They can serve a purpose. I bet they would be picked in a 'blind test' over more 'correct' sophisticated interpretations, by someone who doesn't know much about the music or what to listen for. |

I think Horace is right. Here's that piece played by someone who knows his way around a Beethoven sonata. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LfjD-DQ5REk |

Of course you can say the same about Ivo Pogorelich's playing ... as I heard him last march. At least Pogorelich was known, for some time, as the best living pianist. Now he is getting paid by very kind people who have mercy on his soul.... About the Kempf rendition: very good, I like Kempf, but I like Alfred Brendel more. |

Pogorelich has really lost it, or so I've heard. Sad. Brendel's playing is a little cleaner, and I like his phrasing. Richard Goode is my fav. for Beethoven. |
