How the hell do you remove something like that from a historical document. It was what it was. You can make an argument about the Pledge, religious symbols in government buildings, etc... But changing history? What's next? Endowed by their creator removed from The Declaration of Independence? |
| The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it. | |

In other news, the words to MLK's I Have a Dream speech have been chenged to "Free at last! Free at last! Hot dog! We are free at last!" |
|
Random FML: Today, I was fired by my boss in front of my coworkers. It would have been nice if I could have left the building before they started celebrating. FML The founding of the bulk of the world's nation states post 1914 is based on self-defined nationalisms. The bulk of those national movements involve territory that was ethnically mixed. The foundation of many of those nation states involved population movements in the aftermath. When the only one that is repeatedly held up as unjust and unjustifiable is the Zionist project, the term anti-semitism may very well be appropriate. - P*D

The entire Gettysburg Address is a deliberate religious metaphor turned to secular purposes. You can't even understand it if you don't have the bible as part of your shared intellectual heritage. |

"Any man who would make an X rated movie should be forced to take his daughter to see it". - John Wayne There is a line we cross when we go from "I will believe it when I see it" to "I will see it when I believe it". Henry II: I marvel at you after all these years. Still like a democratic drawbridge: going down for everybody. Eleanor: At my age there's not much traffic anymore. From The Lion in Winter.

Maybe Obama could introduce other declarations, which are a bit catchier. The United States of America: Home of the Whopper. Hillary Clinton: So easy, a caveman could do her. |

When you step back and think about it, this story is freaking unbelievable. Bowdlerizing one of the most important speeches in history, and not even announcing the fact. |
