Thanks all. Not sure what I'm going to do for the day yet.

I blew through 30 without a care. I went through 40 the same way. This one is giving me a bit of pause.

I know I don't feel any different than when I was 35. Oh, maybe an ache or pain here or there I didn't have then, but really, no different. And I surely don't feel old. When I was growing up, 50 wasn't *old, old,* but it was really getting up there. Now, there are parts of me that still don't even feel like a grownup, let alone old. But I have to face the idea that without question, I'm solidly on the back side of the mountain now, and even with exciting developments in recent years, the regrets and failures loom pretty big in the mirror, too. Part of the problem is knowing there isn't enough time left to correct some of the failings, and even worse, that no amount of time could fix some of the others. Maybe it's taken turning 50 to truly take to heart that I'm not going to make it out of this world on my own, leaving a legacy in other people's minds of what I great guy I was, despite having wanted to be; and I'm never going to save myself by my own bootstraps. That I have to rely on the promise that God will look at me, through the mud caked on me that will never totally come off, and pretend that it isn't there.

And in the sometimes-assurance of that promise, I can see the real goodness of life. I can recognize how blessed I've really been even through the mudbath, and learn that part of the great gift of life's blessings is to actually take the time to recognize, appreciate and enjoy them.

Life's journey to Heaven should not be with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, proclaiming "WOW. Thank you Jesus....What a ride!"

Looks like you're having a hell of a ride. Good for you. :thumb: Happy Birthday.

The founding of the bulk of the world's nation states post 1914 is based on self-defined nationalisms. The bulk of those national movements involve territory that was ethnically mixed. The foundation of many of those nation states involved population movements in the aftermath.
