HOLY CARP!!!
...and now there's worry that the back pressure from capping the well could cause a "blowout" of sorts, and more undersea leakage.

I know this is a stupid question, but if they could but a device on that caps the well, why could they not have put a device that just connects the well to a pipe, which then would connect to a rig, and continue to "harvest" the well?

I know nothing about this industry. So, expert(s), why couldn't this have been done (and eliminating the pressure that could create new leaks)?

I thought that (months ago) they tried putting on a cap that also doubled as a funnel into a collection pipe, but for whatever reason it wasn't working? Can't believe this oil pipe started gushing THREE MONTHS ago!

Regarding the back pressure and leakage, that's what I was referring to in this post on Tuesday.
