The current weather here is 92 degrees F, with a dewpoint of 82 degrees, and a heat index of 113 degrees.

It's like a sauna outside. Thank goodness for air conditioning.

Bring on the storms! I can hear the thunder rumbling even now.

We finally saw blue skies yesterday. We've (at least us poor sods who live within a mile of the Pacific Ocean in San Diego) been living under fog and grey skies for a month or two.

Soon as they get the smart grid in place, you''ll be paying through the nose for that air conditioning, so enjoy it while you can.

Brenda - I feel your pain. Just got back from a run outside, in all its humid glory. Dripping from the elbows, hands, and ringing out my headband = longing for AUTUMN.

Raise the temp six degrees and jack the humidity to 90%, and it's just another sunny summer day in Paradise Louisiana.

Or Jena. Or Tallulah. Or Cloutierville. Or Lecompte. Or Opelousas.

Cloutierville is an extremely interesting little ville sometimes...remind me to tell you about it...

One man's Paradise is another man's hell. I hate really hot, humid weather. Give me a nice 10 below with a 30 mph wind over that.

But do tell us about Cloutierville, Jolly. I'm always up for a good story.

Ok...

Cloutierville is an old town, settled in the early 1800's. As is the case with most small towns in the rural South, it sits on Cane River and originially grew up around the Cloutier's plantation. The old plantation house was home to Kate Chopin for several years...some of you may have read her work.

But that's not a big deal, lots of that in the South. No, what makes Cloutierville kinda unique dates back to the South during the time of Segregation.

There are families at Cloutierville...black and Indian familes that are so interbred with whites that they are indistinguishable from Caucasians. I've worked with several of the LaCour family, all are blue or green eyed and lighter of skin tone than I am. Yet they will adamantly deny that they are white, and will go to great lengths to ensure you are aware of their black heritage.

But...up until just the last few years, those families would ostracize any of their children who married into traditional black families. They would only condone unions between others like themselves or the occasional marriage into a white family.

I've always thought it such an interesting juxtaposition that these people, who were so quick to proclaim their black heritage, were also so quick to seperate themselves from the black families around them.
