Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

Still manifestations of APV. The poor guy's vent is a mess. I had him soaking in a warm tub last night to soften some of the poop stalactites that form around his vent to make it easier for him. This morning there was blood in his poop.

The vet 'joked' a while back about the appropriateness of him having me for an owner, each with our 'issue' issues.

Oh, man. That's horrible. Is the blood from trauma around the vent, or do you think it's from the APV going up into the cloaca?

I can't tell. He didn't bleed in the tub, so I'm guessing it's from up in the cloaca.

He's been straining to poop for a couple of years. The vet has had to freeze off a couple of polyps that were beginning to occlude his vent, and of course the resulting scars don't help. It seems to me like it's all just a matter of time.

The tub soak seemed to ease his ability to void considerably(no grunting, and voluminous when it happened), and I'm inclined to put him in again as soon as my wife gets home to help me with him.

We've also been feeding him a lot of soft, wet food(grapes, bananas, etc.) in hopes that will help.

An update:

I got him back in today, and he had another 'freezectomy' - there were more lumps on his vent that needed to be removed. One remarkable thing about it; the vet was able to "DRE" him prior to the surgery with his index finger. We're now going to run a full course of antibiotics(still Zithromax) and see how he cleans out.

The vet made an interesting point as to possibly why we can keep using zith over and over; rather than it being a recurrence of the same infection, it's a new infection every time, so the bacteria may not be able to mutate.

BTW, Beemer is the longest-surviving of four APV birds under his care. Two have died of.......cancer. Go figure.
