Actually, they're admitting a small mistake as a way of denying a much bigger one.

Good for Apple!

Great company with great products.

I knew this would happen though.

They gain market share and they become a target for all the haters.

Just like the Microsoft haters (which I was for many many years and I still don't like them that much). Always attack the "big guy", the "winner", the "success story".

Our government does it and our society promotes it.

If you are successful, we will come after you be it stealing your money directly or bad mouthing you at every opportunity we get or even invent!

It ain't about haters (though I am not a user of Apple products). It's about balance - there must be a balance in the Universe.

Only about 5% of us ever wanted balance in a Microsoft ruled universe.

Probably about the same or even less in the IBM ruled universe.

+1. This is like some guy who's been cheating on his wife with his secretary for about nine years, the wife knows about it, the husband knows that she knows, and then one day out of the blue he says, "honey, I'm shocked to find out you don't like to find my underwear in a heap in the bathroom. I've been doing that since we started dating. Had you told me sooner I would have done something about it."
I cite irreconcilable differences.

I don't get on Apple's case because they're successful. I get on their case because in addition to making great computers, they also like to habitually pee on their customers and brand it as iRain.

No they don't.

They have done nothing but treat this customer with respect and some of the best customer service I have ever experienced.

Sorry guys - I just couldn't get past the fact that Apple admitted to being "stunned" about a design mistake. "Stunned" ?? Do they really believe they are infallible and make no mistakes? One should never believe one's own marketing hype.

DRM.
Fascists.

I don't have the energy to get upset with companies. If I don't want their stuff, I don't buy it. The main reason I don't have any of Apple's stuff is it's too expensive. I don't need a $400 telephone. I don't think any sane person does.

Whatever.

I don't care what terms they use to describe their feelings on the matter. The fact remains, they found a problem (not something that will kill you btw) admitted it was a problem and are working to fix it quickly.

Mountain, meet molehill.

The clincher is the photo they posted of a stunned Steve Jobs - he's obviously trying to find a way of touching the screen to make the bars become normal again.

Can you imagine what the headlines will be when they discover their first Mac virus (or maybe they have, and have just kept it quiet)?

Steve Jobs is a rather tiresome individual, isn't he. Acting like a bit of an artsy fartsy dick type is OK if you're Beethoven, IMO. Doing it when you design computers and telephones is a bit much.

Er, no.

The caption: In this June 7, 2010 photo, Apple CEO Steve Jobs uses the new iPhone 4, at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco. Apple said Friday, July 2, it is "stunned" to find that its latest iPhone model uses a "completely wrong" formula to show how many bars of signal strength it's getting. (AP Photo/Paul Sakuma)

There was an issue with broadband at the Developers Conference, because EVERYONE IN THE ROOM was using the 3G network at the same time. When people stopped "liveblogging" the keynote, the issue went away.

iTunes music is DRM free.
Since when? When did that amazing technological achievement come to pass? You know that wouldn't be such a big deal if they didn't put it on there in the first place. DRM isn't an intrinsic property of music files, Apple had to invent their own version of DRM before they were able to scrap it.

And so iTunes no longer has DRM and all is right with the world.

Oh wait.

Quote:

Is it possible for iPod shuffle to play music when connected to a USB port even if it's not mounted or in disk mode?
No.

Can I take a friend's iPod shuffle and browse or play its content on my machine (like I can with other iPods)?
No, there is no manual mode that allows you to view or play the content from a friend's iPod shuffle on your computer. This also means that you cannot load music from multiple computers or iTunes libraries onto iPod shuffle like you can with other iPods.

Can I transfer data to iPod shuffle from multiple computers when in disk mode?
Yes. If you put iPod shuffle in disk mode, you can transfer data from multiple computers from the Finder (Mac) or Explorer (Windows). You can only load music from one computer, using iTunes.

I love how they word this stuff. "There is no manual mode." It sounds like getting rid of Apple's restrictive software would have to be an extra feature, not just scrapping the junk they already apply to their products! This is exactly the sort of crap I'm talking about.

And then we have the rolodex of bull**** reasons why an iPod won't receive a music file. I love these:
Media file not authorized to play on your computer.
You're using a different "account" than your own.
iTunes needs to be updated.
You're trying to use something other than iTunes to import the file.

Oh yeah. Innovative. Top notch.
I cite irreconcilable differences.

I'm more interested in knowing whether the number of bars indicate signal strength or signal-to-noise ratio.
